Many enjoyed the 47th Blast To Brooks

As celebrations go, the people of Brooks have this one down pat. After 47 years, they still manage to keep it fresh with new events and the crowd coming every year to enjoy the annual celebration.

This year was no exception, the planning committee was fully engaged and from all reports was a success!

The car show is one of the best in the area for a small town celebration. There are many great cars from all makes and models on display. You might have even seen one that reminded you of the first car you ever owned, or maybe still do.

An antique tractor and machinery show was a favorite for folks walking around to check out and reminisce.

The parade was a little shorter than past years, but just good, with over 20 entries.  The Grand Marshall was Francis and JoAnn Bradley this year. 

There was a beer garden, softball games, face painting, St. Joesph’s bake sale and plate dinner, Uff Da Taco’s and food at Carol’s Cozy Bar & Grill. St. Joesph’s also had a raffle going on during the day with many winners.

In the afternoon for the kids were games and a magic show at the Brooks Community Hall. Free ice cream also was handed out later in the afternoon by the Hall.

The new event this year was put on by the Minnesota Micro Mini Tractor Pullers Association. They set up in front of Carol’s Cozy with all their gear and it was amazing what their micro mini tractors and trucks could do. Just imagine a 5 lb micro-mini tractor pulling up to 225 pounds. These five guys, Ed Connell, Jay Lerbs, Bill Vote, Mark Danialson and Brad Romer were competing against each other, earning points to qualify for the National competition and they compete in many different states (Ohio, Iowa, Indiana, Missouri, just to name a few). With the end game to compete in the National competition.

The NMMTPA was founded in 1976 and is the main sanctioning body of Micro-Mini Tractor Pulling in the United States and Canada. Micro-Mini Tractors and Trucks originate from an ERTL type tractor or Tonka type trucks which are then fitted with a model airplane or car engine, driveline, and special pulling tires. There are currently seven sanctioned NMMTPA classes; they are: 3lb.Pro Stock Tractor, 5lb. Pro Stock Tractor, 2WD Road Vehicles, 5lb. Super Stock Tractors, 4x4 Trucks, and 6lb.Unlimited Tractors and 7lb Semi.

And there were still the fun events for adults and kids, Bingo and the Ping-Pong ball drop. In the evening there was musical entertainment furnished by Wild Wes.
