Local students advance to Regional Spelling Bee

The classrooms were quiet, the tension was mounting; not even the buzz of a bee was heard as the annual Spelling Bees were in progress at Grygla and Goodridge last week! Twelve students from 5th-8th grade advanced from the classroom Spelling Bee to the District Spelling Bee, held at each school.
The Goodridge Spelling Bee was held on Monday, January 22nd. Participants were: Libby Erickson, Jonny Murphy, Chase Horachek (5th grade); Emilea Johnson, Tiana Banasau, Carter Lee Johnsrud (6th grade); Thor Henrickson, Caitlyn Jacobson, Brianna Carpenter (7th grade); Braiden Carver, Isaac Johnson, Hannah Wilebski (8th grade).
The winner was Caitlyn Jacobson, 7th grade. Braiden Carver placed 2nd and Emilea Johnson placed 3rd. (Below)
The Grygla Spelling Bee followed on Wednesday, January 24th. Participants were (above) Row 1: LaKylie Brobst, Emily Johnson, Addison Severts (5th grade); Row 2: Kaylee Nephew, Chelsie Nelson, Tatum Carrlson (6th grade); Row 3: Dane Arveson, Reece Sundberg, Chloe Osse (7th grade); Back row: Justin Thompson, Katelyn Larson, Walter Jones (8th grade).
The winner was Emily Johnson, 5th grade. Katelyn Larson placed 2nd and Addison Severts placed 3rd.
District winners advance to Regionals at Northland Community & Technical College in Thief River Falls on February 7th.
