Ladies Auxiliary sews for Veterans

“There are very few VFW Auxiliaries that sew for the veterans, so the Fargo VA Hospital is very happy to hear from Grygla when we come with the quilts,” says Barb Picolet, a member of Grygla’s VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Grygla’s group of ladies held a sewing day last March with Irene Smith, Pam Smith, Sue Aune, Ida Stanley, Barb Picolet, Rose Hanson and Cheryl Sistad in attendance. The group also did their own sewing at home that allowed them to donate 37 quilts to veterans in need. Picolet says they are given to homeless vets or those who are in the hospital. “We have our name tag on them. Some send very nice thank-you cards,” she says. The groups plans to keep sewing for the veterans as long as they can.

In addition to the 37 quilts, other items that went to the Fargo VA October 3-16 included 18 lap robes, 10 afghans, 8 decks of cards, 10 dental floss, 14 tooth brushes, 7 toothpastes, 47 bars of soap and 10 pens.

“We would like to recognize the area churches that also gave us quilts for the veterans. Grace Lutheran of Grygla, United Lutheran Church of Gatzke and Bethesda Lutheran Church of Skime, and those who gave us donations; it all adds up and makes a difference,” stated Picolet.
