Kris Swanson has always had a passion for horses. She has trained, showed and owned championship horses, including one that was purchased in South Africa last year. The horse took several months to arrive in the U.S. as horses from at least South Africa are required to be quarantined in other countries when they are transported here.
“Tango’s Daylight” has arrived at Fred Sarver’s Cornerstone Farm in Carlisle, KY!! He has finally arrived at his home in the USA after a journey of almost 7 months!!
The horse started out in South Africa. Then Tango went to Germany after 4 months quarantine in Mauritius. From Germany the horse went to New York and then Lexington, Kentucky!!! In South Africa Tango won back to back National Fine Harness Grand Championship Titles with his trainer Junior Hugo of Tears & Roses Stables.
The stable is one of the oldest and most successful saddlebred training stables in South Africa.
Kris Swanson’s grandmother Margaret (Margit) Larson first husband passed away when she had four young children; Alice, Art, Henry and Effie. Alice Larson is Kris’s mom. Art and Henry Larson lived in Gonvick. Effie Larson lived in Bagley after she retired from Nursing. Margaret Larson remarried Ellis Vinje after his wife died of tuberculosis. Ellis Vinje’s homestead was near Gonvick, Pine Lake Township, Clearwater County.
(Note: Ellis had three children from his first marriage to Suaave Mitgarden that included Marie (Henry) Johnson of Clearbrook (which include Robert and Vernon Johnson of Clearbrook) and Edward and Oscar Vinje.)
Kris grew up with her parents Alice and Don Swanson in Minneapolis and spent time in the summer with their families in Clearbrook and Gonvick. She would visit with her cousin Priscilla (Larson) Hollander, daughter of the Art Larsons.
Dr. Priscilla (Larson) Hollander is an endocrinologist in Dallas, Texas and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Baylor Medical Center at Irving and Baylor University Medical Center. She received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and has been in practice for more than 20 years. She is one of 5 doctors at Baylor Medical Center at Irving and one of 10 at Baylor University Medical Center who specialize in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism.
Both cousins have been living their dreams. One to own horses and one to be a doctor.
About Tango’s Daylight
Swanson Investments LLC & NEWLINE Stud made the announcement that TANGO’S DAYLIGHT would be exported to the United States.
They also stated that, “His blood is 100% clear of babesiosis (no antibodies!!) and quarantine will start in early November if all goes well! He will spend 3 months in Mauritius and we think he will enjoy the “holiday” at the beach!
This is a new chapter in our dream and although it is a huge risk, huge cost and a LONG journey - he will stay in quarantine for 5 months in three countries before arriving in New York, we think a stallion like him deserves to go to back to America. We also believe that he will be an ideal outcross for our Undulata’s Nutcracker broodmares as well as other bloodlines. The idea was to send frozen semen to the US, but when it became clear that USDA would not give permission, we decided on plan B, get Tango to the USA!
As mentioned in other posts, if one evaluate his pedigree, he is a descendant on his sire line from Vanity Sensation Of Crebilly x Wing Commander * Supreme Sultan dam and his bottom line is the (SA) BHF, The Jazz Queen who has Supreme Sultan and Cameo’s Farewell in her sire line and Stonewall Supreme (through Mr USA and United States) x Highpoint Supreme dam!
Old proven South African show blood with lots of stamina, good solid bone structure and lots of natural ability he stamps his foals with!”
