For three years now, Grygla Physical Education teacher, Brady Olson, has had his students participate in the Jump Rope for Heart event. Grygla 2-6 graders have had the opportunity to fundraise money for the American Heart Association through this program and they set the bar high this year! Each year, the amount raised has increased with the total amount raised this year being $3,293.00. The second graders, alone, raised $1,762 of that!
Through Jump Rope for Heart, students grow. They learn the value of community service and how they can contribute and make a difference. They also learn how to develop heart-healthy habits while being physically active. For each dollar amount raised, the kids had to jump rope that many times. Money raised not only benefits the American Heart Association, but the students’ efforts also help their school earn free P.E. equipment.
With a total of 24 students participating this year, that number is impressive and will benefit the American Heart Association. Students are awarded gifts based on how much money they raise. The top fundraiser in each class also gets to be the Phy. Ed. Teacher for a day. A few of the prizes given out included jump ropes, playground balls, t-shirts and mini-speakers.
Students raising over $100: Kinsley Oslund, Addison Severts, Emily Carlson, Walter Jones, Justin Thompson, Riley Saurdiff.
Over $200: Ava Sorvig, Anna Sundberg, Lewis Jones, Kia Klein, Brigette Watne.
Over $300: Payton Dougherty.
Over $400: Emily Johnson, who was the top fundraiser at $420, earning a medal.
All of the kids can take pride in a job well done, as their efforts will greatly benefit the lives of others. It takes heart to be a hero.
