How many H’s are out there?
A few years ago I headed for Bejou, MN, to see what was up with 7-H Farmalls for sale at an auction. It was a beautiful day for an auction and I suppose I should have stayed home and got some work done, but somehow I had the desire to check out what 7-H Farmalls would sell for.
I, of course, am a John Deere fan but I love all tractors. Being current President of the Tri RIver Pioneers museum in Plummer I am in the market for an H Farmall or at least one with some parts to spare. The H’s ranged in price from about $700 up to $2000 for a nice running wide front H with nearly new 11.2 X 38 tires. No, none of them “followed me home” but it was still a fun day to head for a sale.
The H Farmall was a very popular tractor. In fact 391,227 were made. They were manufactured in the Rock Island, Illinois factory. They were introduced in 1939 and manufactured until 1953. In 1953-54, the Super H replaced the H and 28,784 of the Super H’s were manufactured. From 1929-1963 Farmall sold more row crop tractors than any other company. The H and Super H were the number one selling row crop tractor of all time.
That is quite a pedigree!! So you can see even a John Deere man like myself has to give a little respect to such a popular tractor.
On the way home that day I stopped in Brooks to look at 14 more Hs that will be up for auction at the Lawrence Berberich sale. Guess what two of those H’s followed me home. John Deere’s still hold by heart but I do like those H’s.
If you are into Farmall’s mark your calendar. The 2026 National Red Power Round Up will be held on the SD State Fairgrounds in Huron, SD on June 25 - 27, 2026. Sounds like it could be a good time for a tractor fan!
