Historic Clearwater Church struck by lightning last week

The Clearwater Church was organized on February 21, 1898 with a congregation of thirty people. These people took turns holding the church services in their homes until seven years later when the foundation for the church was built. 

The lot for the church was donated by Hage Fore and was built across the road from the cemetery that was donated by A. W. Brekke. 

Reverend Saeter was the first pastor to hold church services in this church. Then in 1999 the Clearwater church was placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior. 

The church still stands today but on June 13 it was hit by lightning that caused severe damage to the church. Shingles and trim now lay on the side of the road. There is a hole by the stairway where pieces of the wall now remain. The light switches were blown out and glass from lights and windows were scattered throughout the church.
