Grygla School recognizes AEW

Last week, November 13-17, the Grygla School celebrated American Education Week. The NEA’s American Education Week presents all Americans with an opportunity to honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring that every child receives a quality education. The week long celebration spotlights the different people who are critical in building great public schools for the nation’s 50 million K-12 students. American Education Week’s celebration days included:

• Monday, November 13: National Kickoff. Schools across the country celebrated excellence in education by hosting kickoff events and activities. Students in Grygla received Mr. Freezes for the “Our School is Cool” theme. 

• Tuesday, November 14: Tuesday was “Design a Flag/Pennant” where K-12 students designed a school flag to show school pride. 7-12 graders had a chance to win a $10 school store gift certificate. 3 designs were chosen to possibly be made into a school flag available to purchase. 

• Wednesday, November 15: Education Support Professionals Day. Individuals who provide invaluable services to schools were recognized for their outstanding work. Support staff in Grygla received goodies.

• Thursday, November 16: Educator for a Day. Community leaders were invited to the elementary classrooms to read aloud. Rose Hanson read to the Kindergarten class; Vicki Saude-Worthington read to the first and third grade classes; Joy Nordby read to the second graders; Hazel Thomas read to the fifth grade class. This day, students were also invited to dress up like their future career. 

• Friday, November 17: Substitute Educators Day. This day honored the educators who are called upon to replace regularly employed teachers. A gift was given to everyone who subbed that day. Parents at the Grygla School were also invited to visit their elementary child’s classroom from 9am-12:20pm and eat lunch with them.
