Grygla: The biggest town of its size

The Grygla area appeals to nature lovers and seekers, alike. With a few different routes bringing you to our neck of the woods, you’re sure to see an abundance of wildlife whichever trek you take. The rural roads to Grygla can often include sightings of deer, moose, black bear, wolves and coyotes, with the scenes providing an idyllic setting for wildlife observation, including birdwatching.
Grygla has an established elk herd that is regularly seen along main highways and roads typically north of town. At last count by the MN DNR, the herd was made up of approximately 20 elk.
To further your outdoor adventure and wildlife viewing opportunities, Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge is “purt-near” in Grygla’s back yard; just 17 miles west!
Grygla is a central location of many wildlife areas and public lands, noted as a great hunting spot!
With numerous clubs and organizations, there’s a way to get involved around every corner! With almost 150 members, the Fourtown/Grygla Sportsman’s Club has emerged into one of the most active sportsman’s clubs in Northwest Minnesota. Members take pride in the area’s outdoor recreational opportunities, which includes maintaining approximately 240 miles of Grant-In-Aid snowmobile trails and 180 miles of an ATV Trail System around the Grygla/Fourtown area.
Other areas of interest in and around town include a city campground, two parks, a public-use airport, a hiking trail along the Mud River, which also serves as a quiet, serene spot to snow shoe and cross-country ski. Grygla also has newly constructed sand volleyball, tennis, horseshoe and basketball courts in town, along with two baseball/softball fields and an indoor ice skating rink.
Home of the Chargers, the Grygla Public School offers small class sizes with excellent teacher to student ratio, excellent technology access, bus routes extending beyond school district lines, and a safe and exciting learning experience for its students.
Grygla has a progressive city government, which is continually seeking to attract business and industry. The region is rich in agricultural resources, with related businesses and services supporting the diversified farm enterprises common to the area. With a good selection of retail and service businesses, Grygla has various dining establishments and churches, as well as a locally-owned independent bank and a fire/rescue department. Some local businesses include: American State Bank & Insurance Agency, Machinewell, Inc., Grygla Co-op Grocery Store, Farmer’s Union Ag & Oil Company, Motel 89, Grygla Eagle Newspaper, Sue’s Beauty Shop, Northwest Regional Library and more!
