Grygla Alumnus to begin combat training in the US Marine Corps

Jordan Herseth was back home for a quick 10-day trip before heading back out to California earlier this week. A 2018 Grygla Graduate, Jordan left for the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, CA, on June 4th. (What was supposed to be a 13 week Boot Camp, ended up being about 16 weeks due to a hip injury he sustained in the process.) 

With no contact other than the form of hand-written letters since early June, his family flew out to San Diego for his September 21st graduation and enjoyed the reunion immensely! It was an emotional and joyous occasion for the entire family.

While home on his break, Jordan not only enjoyed spending time with family and friends, but he also visited the Grygla High School students one morning to share a bit about his experience in the United States Marine Corps, thus far.

Jordan will be flying out west again on Tuesday, October 2nd, where he will begin his month-long combat training at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA. He says this time will be a lot more physically challenging, whereas Boot Camp was definitely a mental challenge.

Jordan won’t be back home for about another year as after his combat training, he’ll be sent to MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) school in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where he’ll be trained as an MOS 3531 Motor Vehicle Operator.

Jordan’s enlistment with the US Marine Corps is for 4 years total. When his time of service ends, he plans to attend college and pursue a career in Law Enforcement.
