Gonvick City Council September 11, 2025
The Gonvick City Council met in regular session on Thursday, September 11.
The minutes were approved.
Ryan Grow Clearbrook-Gonvick School Superintended had a school referendum presentation for the council. The process started in July of 2023 when the board hired ASTR to complete a facilities study. They came up with safety, classroom and systems concerns to be brought up to the voters on November 4, 2025. That will be held at the Clearbrook City Hall for all districts.. A town hall meeting for the public to hear about the bond referendum has been set for Tuesday, September 23 at the school. Cost for the project was determined to be $34.9 million. After the bonds are sold the interest rate that the district will pay would be added above those costs.
Mark Borseth was present requesting the vacation of Pine Street adjacent to his property that he recently purchased on the south side of South Avenue. Troy Deschane has property on the east side which is called Pine Street. It would mean vacating that part of the street that has never been used. Borseth said he would take care of the cost. The council will find out legal costs and bring it up for discussions at their next meeting.
Ryan Solee gave his Police report with 8 records this month. They are also planning a gun safety training class with the Bagley Police Department. Shooting will be done on the Rodeo grounds on Saturday, September 13.
Fire Department report from Cody Rude, Fire Chief. They had 1 meeting, 1 work night, 3 medical calls, 1 motor vehicle accident, 1 training night. The department received money from TC Energy for radios in the amount of $9,000. They ordered 4 new hand held radios.
The Kodiak Pumper 1993 truck has been put up for sale.
Otter Tail Power awarded them a grant for $4,000 to upgrade their communications system.
The roof project is under way and should be completed by the end of September. The siren on the fire hall had to be removed to complete the roofing on the building and Otter Tail Power will set a pole next to the building to mount the siren.
They had three applicants for members of the fire department. Lani Thorssen, Keenan Jones and Casey Schmitt. They will be on a one-year probation.
The department will be selling hamburgers and hot dogs at pumpkin days on September 27 in Gonvick.
They have applied for a grant for a Lucas Machine and are in the process of getting a medical director.
A Mutual Aid Agreement with Clearwater County was approved.
The council set the 2026 proposed budget levy at that same amount as last year at 3%
Bills were paid with Water and Sewer at $2,965.98, General $12,008/61, Fire $53.39 for a total of $15,026.98.
