Official Minutes Grygla/Gatzke School Board Meeting
Thursday, July 18, 2019, 7:00 p.m.
Chairperson of the board Karina Tinnes called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. with Jeremy Rychlock, James Verbout, Andrew Oslund, Tera Nordby, Clinton Brobst, Principal Lunsetter and Superintendent Clow present.
Pledge of Allegiance.
Motion by Jeremy Rychlock, second by James Verbout, to approve the agenda as amended. Passed 6-0. Minutes of the 6/24/19 regular school board meeting were approved as printed. Motion by James Verbout, second by Karina Tinnes, to approve payment of the bills check #36835 through check #36894 and wire payments. Passed 6-0.

Motion by Tera Nordby, second by Andrew Oslund to designate the American State Bank, Grygla, and the Minnesota Liquid Asset Fund as official depository. Passed 6-0. Motion by Karina Tinnes, second by Tera Nordby to designate the Grygla Eagle as the legal newspaper. Passed 6-0.
Student Report: No student report given.
Teacher Report: Given by Robin Johnson. The midget baseball team finished with the best record ever and beat Greenbush during the season, who went on to win the tournament. The Peewee’s also had a good season and played well in the playoffs. Addy Severts and Allie Sundberg attended Legionville Camp, and Harlie Hagen, Seth Kazcor and Janessa Torgerson will attend the camp in August. The GEA is in charge of the Fall Fest Parade this year. There is new flooring in the Kindergarten room. Mr. Olson said there have been 18 students in the weight room consistently this year. Volleyball and basketball camps were well attended this summer. Read, Write, Math has fewer kids in it this year, and will host its annual lunch and book giveaway on the first day of swimming lessons on Monday, July 22. Thank you to the Fosston School and community for providing the opportunity for our kids.
Principal Report: Presented by Mr. Lunsetter. With the Goodridge gym floor project running behind, the August games have been moved to Grygla, with later games being moved to Goodridge. The student council will hold their summer lock-in on August 8-9, where they will organize the Fun Run, Kiddie Games, Return Retreat and Homecoming activities. We have someone interested in the Business position, with more information coming soon. There are two applicants for the football coaching position, with some possible changes coming to the volleyball and football staffs. The Kindergarten room floor looks great, as well as the small gym. We have applied for a grant that will help out with purchasing some weight room equipment that will benefit our school and our community. There will be a second quote coming next week for video surveillance equipment for the school.
Superintendent Report: Mr. Clow updated the board on the Bus Log.
Motion by Andrew Oslund, second by Tera Nordby to approve the ten year long facilities maintenance plan.. Passed 6-0. Motion by Jeremy Rychlock, second by James Verbout to accept the 19-20 milk bid from FSA. Passed 6-0. Motion by Tera Nordby, second by Jeremy Rychlock to authorize Jamie Lunsetter as the identified individual with Authority for ISD 447 effective 8-1-19. Passed 6-0. Motion by James Verbout, second by Clinton Brobst to approve the 2019-20 bus routes with administration authority to adjust bus routes in the best interest of the school district. Passed 6-0. Motion by Andrew Oslund, second by Karina Tinnes to approve the extra-curricular 2019-20 “sweetheart stops”. Passed 6-0. Motion by James Verbout, second byJeremy Rychlock to approve the 2019-20 student handbook as presented. Passed 6-0. Motion by Karina Tinnes, second by Tera Nordby to approve the 2019-20 teacher handbook as presented.
Motion by Andrew Oslund, second by James Verbout to accept the following donations: $19.58-Susie Olson for shop class $3000.00-Pheasants Forever for trap shooting Passed 6-0.
Motion by Jeremy Rychlock, second by Andrew Oslund to accept the resignation of Karina Tinnes, board chair effective 8-10-19. Passed 6-0. The school district thanks Karina for her years of dedication and leadership to the school and communities. Motion by Clinton Brobst, second by Tera Nordby to declare school board vacancy. Passed 6-0. Motion by James Verbout, second by Jeremy Rychlock to fill board vacancy by appointment. Passed 6-0. Motion by Andrew Oslund, second by Tera Nordby that vice chair Jeremy Rychlock chair the 8-15-19 regular board meeting until a chair is selected for the August-December 2019 regular school board meetings. Passed 6-0.
Trustee Reports: Thank you to Galen and Cindy Clow for their years of commitment to the students, staff and citizens of the Grygla School District. Mr. Clow’s leadership and guidance will be missed.
Certified negotiations will meet again in August.
