Day Care is a Family Affair

The sign in Leonard says Family Day Care and owner Julie Fredrickson agrees with her new business sign. Her parents Diane and Richie Langseth of Leonard stop by regularly to help out when they can.

The children are excited to see Grandpa Richie come to talk with them. Diane also stops by as she works for the Clearwater County Nursing Service.

Julie opened the new building in June of this year when Paul and Fred Ehlers finished the work. After the building was completed the plumbing, electrical and other building codes had to be inspected before she could open her door.

Julie has a two-year degree from Northwest Technical in Early Childhood Education including First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CRP) and Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUIDS) training and  Abusive Head Trauma (AHT) .

She worked for Head Start in Bemidji where she received several hours of training and good experiences to help understand why children are behaving the way they do.

All of her Day Care children parents have been great to work with. She has lots of band aids and is ready to give hugs whey they are needed. 

The state has many guide lines on what she can serve for her meals that she prepares each day for breakfast, lunch and snacks. For breakfast she serves milk, grain and a fruit. For lunch there is meat, grain, fruit, vegetable and milk and for snack she take two of the food groups. Chicken nuggets and fruit are the favorite of all the children. There is also guide lines on what milk that she serves to each age group: formula for the babies, whole milk for those age one and two and skim or 1% for those who are over two. One youngster knows that if he would like something to drink or some milk he stands by the refrigerator and then she knows he needs some liquid. 

Children are served family style around the table when it is time for each meal. Babies have two naps each day and the other children have only one nap in the afternoon after lunch. 

The morning after the babies naps, when it is nice outside, they all take a walk to the Leonard playground that is perfect for a little running around.  When it is raining and when winter comes they will be able to let off some steam in the  basement. That is where she will be keeping her larger toys that are just outside the building now.
