Council Minutes report that Motel 89 has been turned over to the bank

The June meeting of the City Council was held at the Grygla Civic Building on Monday, June 11th. Council members approved the May minutes, which are included below, and state that Motel 89’s keys have been turned over to the bank and the City.

As of July 1st, 2015, the owners of Motel 89 had been Shawn and Stacie Meyer, of Grygla. The Grygla Eagle reached out to the involved parties for comment on the matter back on May 14th. Bryan Grove, President of ASB, had said the motel is currently operational and is expected to be for the foreseeable future. Due to confidentiality and financial privacy, no other information was shared on the matter. 

Stacie Meyer only provided, “Due to personal reasons, Shawn and I made a decision to release the motel back to the lenders.”

Last week, Mayor Richard Mosher did clarify that the motel is currently being managed by Misty Erickson; it is open for business and being operated under the same phone number as usual. He also noted that they are working with a lawyer on the matter so he is unable to give any more information at this time other than Motel 89 is financed by American State Bank of Grygla, the City of Grygla and the NW MN Foundation out of Bemidji.

May 18th Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Grygla City Council

The meeting was called to order, at 7pm by Mayor Mosher with the following council members present: Gavin Nordby, Dave Dunrud, Robert Thompson and Lindsay Oslulnd. Absent: None. Also present was Rose Aune.

Council approved minutes, along with receipts, disbursements, checking, savings & total balances for that month. The payment of all bills was also approved. Other items included: 

WATER TOWER 

Moore Engineering has sent in the application for PFA funding. 

COMMUNITY CENTER

The Community Center rent has been rasied to $100 without kitchen use and $200 with kitchen use. It’s already in place that if alcohol is served, another $100 will be added to the rent.

PLAYGROUND 

EQUIPMENT

Oslund is going to do a Picnic in the Park June 2nd. She has also set up a fundraising Facebook page and has made $2,100 so far.

MOTEL

The keys have been turned over to bank and city for the motel. Someone will be hired to manage it until it’s sold. NW MN Foundation has contacted a lawyer in order to proceed with selling.

BULK WATER METERING

There’s nothing new to report at this time.

SOUTH ADDITION

Rose met with Joel Paulsen from Santec Consulting Services about possibly putting South Addition into a TIF District. He would like to meet with the council, but couldn’t make it to the meeting - will try for next month’s meeting.

BANK EMERGENCY AGREEMENT

The Bank Emergency agreement with city was approved. 

TENNIS COURTS

The council is looking into upgrading the tennis courts. The Centennial Committee has about $16,000 to put towards it. Hoping to get the remainder from the school and other organizations.

CAMPGROUND FEES

Council members approved the increase of camping fees to $25/day or $100/week. WATER AND SEWER RATES

The water fund is not holding on its own. Council will have to do some figuring on an increase in rates.

EXTRA MEETINGS

Dunrud and Mosher had the Board of Equalization meeting.
