Come to Oklee for Oklee Market Day this Saturday

On August 12, 2017, the streets of Oklee will once again be filling up with people coming to enjoy a day of fun.
There are many events planned for the 2017 Oklee Market Day.
On the intersection of 2nd Ave. and Main Street, an information tower will be located with all the events planned for the day and their starting times. Oklee Market Day Staff will be wearing Staff Shirts for questions about events and times.
Many of the businesses in Oklee are holding specials along with in-store drawings. Visit and shop and get your name in the drawings.
Starting the day off are two events.
The first one is a Key Hunt starting at 8:00 a.m. There will be 6 keys hidden in the downtown area where the Market Day activities are being held. Only one will open the lock. Prizes will be awarded for all keys, the key that opens the lock, will be the big winner.
The other will be an Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness 5K Walk/Run. Registration opens at 8:00 a.m. with the race starting at 8:30 a.m. Entry fees this year are $20 per individual and no family entry. Guaranteed a t-shirt if registered by July 22nd.

If your here for the shopping then this is the time you are waiting for: 9:00 a.m. the Craft Vendors will be open at the Oklee Community Hall at the RLCC High School and outside vendors will also be set up. There is always room for more vendors of all types, Craft, Produce and Flea Marketers. Contact Jena Dessellier at 218-791-9233 (text or call). Cost for a spot is only $25.

Vendors are still lining up.
One of the popular places to stop by is the Oklee Market Day Quilt Show that starts at 9:00 a.m. at the RLCC High School. If you have a quilt to show, it is not too late to enter it. There are four categories: Twin & Larger quilts; Smaller quilts and other projects; Heritage quilts and other projects; and Kids 16 and under division. People’s choice awards in all four categories. Bonus Event: Bed turning at 10:30 a.m. and there will be Lucky Buck drawings for women, men, and kids.
The Annual Car and Motorcycle Show is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. This is the second year for the motorcycles, so if you have a special two or three wheeled cycle, add it to the show. So bring your decked out autos and motorcycles and enjoy the day. “Sundown” by Wild Wes will be furnishing the music. Stroll down Main Street just south of the Oklee Cafe and check out the fantastic collection of cars and motorcycles. Call Linda at 218-689-5038 with any questions.
10:00 a.m. brings the Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest with judging at 1:00 p.m. Bring your own chalk and decorate up the town. Register on Main Street between Oklee Quilting Supply and the Security State Bank. Winners will be announced at 3:00 p.m.
And the Old Time Plowing Demonstration is planned once again as a major event at Oklee Market Day at 11:00 a.m. If you want to participate, bring your pre-1960 tractor and a 2 or 3 bottom plow and come join in the fun of day gone by. And if you just love watching, there will be an area for spectators to meet the owners, check out the old tractors and equipment. A great learning experience for children and adults of all ages. Getting closer to noon, there are a number of food vendors ready to feed your hunger. The three local food service business in Oklee are the Oklee Cafe, Cenex C-Store and TJ’s Tavern. But in addition to them, there will be other food stands set up on the streets. Zion Lutheran will be serving burgers and the American Legion Post #159 will have brats and dogs. The Kart and The Snow Sled Inn Food Stands will be set up on the street.
Street Games will be starting at 1:30 p.m. for all ages on Main Street north of 2nd Ave. Not sure what games are planned yet, but I’m sure the organizers will have a fun list of games for all ages to participate in. Could be a three legged race, egg toss, hulahoops, etc. Really don’t know what is planned, but what ever the games are, they will be lots of fun.
A new event at Market day will be the ATV Pull starting at 2:30 p.m. behind D & R Grocery. Any questions contact Jarrod Larson at 218-686-8979.
At 3:00 p.m. there will announcements of winners from the Car Show, Chalk Art Contest, the local Business Drawing winners, the Key Hunt winners, Lucky Buck winners, and Quilt Show winners.
Things are not done yet for the Oklee Market Day. Events continue to bring fun for the evening hours.
Starting at 4:00 p.m. there will be a Chili / Wine & Beer Contest at the Oklee Hall. Contestants bring your homemade chili, wine and beer, and the recipe to the contest. If you have any questions call Jessi at 218-791-0926.
At 6:00 p.m. the 50/50 winner will be drawn for and other winners at the Hall.
Brady Grove, our local magician will entertain starting at 6:30 p.m. In addition to his bag of tricks, he will be blowing your mind with his mind readings. This is new for him and it could be very interesting addition to his repertoire.
Also at the Chili Cook-off contest, TJ’s Bar will be set up and the Oklee Café will be serving supper in the hall before the evening of musical entertainment begins.
Starting at 7:15 p.m. at the Oklee Hall, Oklee is privileged to have the talents of Jordynn Johnsrud. With the Open Mic following at 8:15 p.m. if anyone wants to share their talents.
To finish off the Oklee Market Day, TJ’s Tavern will have music approximately at 9:00 p.m.
