Clear Waters Life Center-Gonvick hosted an Italian Friday Night Out, Nov. 3. Even though the food may have looked a little different to Scandinavian eyes, the variety of flavors was appealing to our guests’ taste-buds. The Chicken Saltimbocca was seasoned chicken breasts topped with prosciutto, fried to a golden brown, and served with a lemony sauce of whipping cream, butter, and artichoke hearts, and a sprinkle of capers. The dessert, tiramisu, was “to die for”. The menu was completed with a green leafy salad, Italian bread, and roasted Normandy-blend vegetables.
It takes a team to pull-off these monthly meals. CWLC staff, Mustard Seed Homes residents, and 10 or more, depending on the month, community volunteers work together to make Friday Night Out a community-building event. There is plenty of laughter, learning, hard-work, and comradery. We are always open to new volunteers. If you would like to try it out, call 218-776-2789, and just let us know which month(s) you would be available to help. Friday Night Out is always the first Friday of the month.
Our next Friday Night Out, December 1, will be unique in several ways. International Holiday Showcase will be the first Friday Night Out when reservations will be required! The earlier that you can make your reservations, the better. The reservation list is already filling. Call 218-776-2789 to make yours. This will be a dinner-theater-style event, so everyone needs to be seated by 5:30, and it will take place in the gym rather than the dining rooms. A three-vignette drama will be performed by students and community volunteers depicting Christmas in Germany, Mexico, and Sweden. In addition, there will several performers taking part in the variety show. This is reminiscent of the Holiday Showcase that was enjoyed in Gonvick in the 90’s. The dinner will consist of traditional international Christmas appetizers and desserts, prime rib, twice-baked potatoes, carrots, and beverages.
