BBB on Monday, January 20, vs. RLC in Goodridge
RLC 58, Chargers 38
GG Stats: Hudson McMillin (6 pts, 2 reb). Nick Groven (1 pt, 3 reb, 2 asst), Riley Manderud (10 pts, 3 reb, 4 asst), Jordan Coan (6 pts, 11 reb, 2 asst), Jordan Horachek (3 pts, 2 reb, 2 asst), Nolan Anderson (2 pts), Moses Jensen (8 pts), Ian Haugen (2 pts, 5 reb)
Coach’s comments: The beginning of the game was sloppy for both teams. We defended really well and hung with the Rebels for most of the first half. As the game wore on, the Rebels found some rhythm on offense and we continued to struggle to score against their very good, aggressive defense. We shot poorly both from the field and from the FT line. Jordan Horachek gave us some good minutes as he was aggressive and active on defense.
BBB on Tuesday, January 21, vs LOW in Grygla
Chargers 80, LOW 53
GG Stats: Blake Jensen (3 pts), Hudson McMillin (10 pts, 2 reb, 3 asst), Jake Olson (2 reb, 4 steals), Nick Groven (7 pts, 5 reb, 5 asst), Riley Manderud (18 pts, 11 reb, 6 asst), Jordan Coan (25 pts, 7 reb, 3 steals), Andrew Loken (4 pts, 2 reb), Jordan Horachek (3 pts, 4 reb), Nolan Anderson (2 asst), Moses Jensen (5 pts, 2 asst), Tucker Verbout (3 pts), Ian Haugen (2 pts, 3 asst)
Coach’s comments: The Bears looked to be a much improved team from when we last matched up with them. We struggled to pull away from them for most of the first half, but had a big run just prior to halftime to get a good cushion. Our pressure created turnovers and some transition points which allowed us to keep our lead. We had good contributions from our bench this evening - Blake and Tucker provided some good shooting, Andrew did a nice job in the paint, and Nick played a very good all around game.
GBB on Thursday, January 23, at WAO
WAO 62, GG 28
GG Stats: Daria Waletzki- 2 points, Amy Wiskow- 5 points, Chloe Kuznia- 4 points, Trinity Walseth- 2 points, Caitlyn Jacobson- 4 points, Maddy Cullen- 5 points, Vivian Coan- 4 points
Coach’s comments: The girls played very good half court defense most of the night. I think one of the best games we have had. There were a few possessions that we took off, but for the most part we played well. We were able to contest a lot of their shots. They scored a lot off of our turnovers. We had too many of those and they capitalized. I felt we contested a lot of the shots that they made, but they were just really good shooters. We are still slumping on the scoring the end. We had a few shots go in and out tonight, but we have to start shooting better from the outside.
BBB on Friday, January 24, vs. BGMR in Goodridge
BGMR 66, Chargers 54
GG Stats: Hudson McMillin (15 pts, 7 reb), Jake Olson (6 pts, 4 reb), Nick Groven (2 pts), Riley Manderud (13 pts, 7 reb, 4 asst), Jordan Coan (7 pts, 7 reb), Jordan Horachek (2 pts), Moses Jensen (3 pts), Ian Haugen (6 pts, 5 reb, 3 blocks)
Coach’s comments: Although we didn’t win the game, this was our best effort in a long time. Our effort was where we need it to be. We really competed on defense against a strong Gator squad. Turnovers were definitely an issue - their pressure defense forced us into 30 turnovers. Despite that, we hung with them the entire game. We trailed by 2 at halftime, held a brief lead during the second half, and were within 6 with a minute left. Everyone on the team played well, but Ian really stood out. His defensive presence was excellent and crashed the glass hard all night. We will need to carry this effort into the remainder of the season.
