Carrots Selected for 2026 One Vegetable, One Community Initiative
Clearwater County residents are invited to take part in the 2026 One Vegetable, One Community (OVOC) initiative, a collaborative effort designed to bring people together through gardening, healthy eating, and community connection.
OVOC encourages individuals, families, schools, and organizations across the county to grow, cook, and share one featured vegetable each year. The program is supported by the University of Minnesota Extension, Clearwater County 4-H, Clearwater County Master Gardeners, Clearwater County Fair, Clearwater County, and Ter-Lee Gardens.
The featured vegetable for 2026 is the carrot.
Participants will have the opportunity to grow “Little Finger” carrot seeds, which have been generously donated by Ter-Lee Gardens. These carrots typically grow to about four inches in length and are well-suited for a variety of gardening methods, including container gardening, raised beds, and traditional in-ground planting.
Organizers hope the program will increase access to affordable, healthy foods while also encouraging hands-on learning and strengthening community ties.
Throughout the growing season, we are hoping carrots will be planted in a wide range of locations across Clearwater County, including community and school gardens, residential spaces, local businesses, faith-based organizations, and public buildings.
Free carrot seed packets will be distributed to various businesses throughout the county. Please look at bulletin boards throughout the county. Residents are encouraged to pick up a packet and join in the effort to grow and share this year’s featured vegetable.
