When local residents watch the upcoming reality show “Cabin Fever,” they’ll see former Thief River Falls resident Cory Bieganek in action.
“It’s something I never thought would happen to me,” Bieganek said.
Bieganek is employed at Heim Log Homes in Kelliher. The business constructs handcrafted log homes. And now the business is being featured on an upcoming TV show, “Cabin Fever.” The first episode airs Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 9 p.m. on the National Geographic Channel.
The Kelliher resident has seen an online teaser of the show. “I thought it was amazing,” said Bieganek, who noted it’s mind-blowing how everything is edited and comes together.
Bieganek is excited to watch the show. He recalled watching the TV show “Ax?Men” and thinking it would be cool to work in that field and be on TV. Now, the roles have reversed.
Bieganek began working for his cousin Nate Heim at Heim Log Homes in summer 2011. Before his senior year in high school, Bieganek began peeling logs. After a hiatus in which he worked as a certified nursing assistant, he returned to Heim Log Homes. For the past year-and-a-half, he has operated chain saws, and peeled, sanded and ground logs. Heim Log Homes works on log homes as far away as Mississippi and Texas, typically working on them for about three weeks at a time.
The production crew began filming “Cabin Fever” in March 2014. Filming has occurred on and off since that time. Bieganek noted work is a different experience when someone is placing a camera in your face and asking questions. At the same time, he said it’s fun.
