Bergerson retires after 27 years on Township Board

Glenn Bergerson of Gully attended his last Gonvick Fire Department dinner as a member of the Johnson Township Board. He has been serving for the last 27 years on the town board since 1991.

He served as a supervisor for many years and the last few years he served as the chairman of the township. 

Township roads are the biggest part of the duties of the board. They have road inspections both winter and summer. Pot holes have to be taken care of before they get any bigger. They always kept them up by putting pea rock to fill and then packed the gravel afterwards. They use a road grader to smooth out the area.

They have to maintain the right-of-way, check ditches for trees and shrubs and replace new culverts when needed.

The hardest part of the job was getting members together for meetings and to check the roads and other things. Most of the members also had farming and haying to do as well.

Glenn was the fourth son of Bennie and Mabel (Sweno) Bergerson. He has lived most of the life in the same area except when he entered the US Army in March of 1958. He did his basic training in Fort Carson, Colorado and served twenty months with the First Battle Group, 21st Infantry in Munich, Germany. He retired in March of 1960 and returned back to the area.

Along with a beef cow-calf operation and putting up many big round bales he worked at the Cenex in Gully. He started there in April of 1966, the Lost River Bridge had gone out so he had to leave his vehicle on one side of the river and walk across on planks to get to work.

In November 1983 he was married to Crystal Carlson and he gained a family with her two children Kimberly and Travis. 

He and Crystal like to spend time with the grandchildren. Kimberly lives in Breckenridge with her family, with three grand son and one granddaughter. Travis lives in Goodridge with his family and two grandsons.

He has cut back on his farming as he only buys a few steers to keep the grass down a little around the farm. He rents out his land to Lonnie and Wade Burrack.

 He does enjoy gong to the Gully Cafe and visiting with everyone there.
