Behind the Scenes with Meyer Management

By now you’re probably aware of the new summer series running each week! I’ve been giving you an up close and personal look into a local business or organization after spending some time on the job with them. I hope you’ve been enjoying a more personalized, inside look and going “Behind the Scenes” of our local entities.
This week we’re taking a look at Meyer Management, LLC. Founders, Shawn and Stacie Meyer, stay busy, indeed, making sure multiple businesses are running successfully in Grygla.
After purchasing Motel 89 in July of 2015, the couple has made many improvements and renovations to the building. They have a short term goal of putting on a maroon tin roof before the Grygla Centennial and they also have a long term goal of adding on a couple more rooms. “It’s something we’d like to do down the road a ways because we know they’ll definitely get used,” said Stacie.
Currently, Motel 89 has 7 rooms. 5 of those are single, 1 is a double and there is a 4 bedroom fully equipped apartment. Stacie says things have been a bit slow at the motel this summer, but they are usually pretty booked up between construction crews, loggers, farmers, hunters and family members of community members.
Upon check in, someone is always available on site. Motel 89 accepts reservations via phone call or email, currently reservations are not available online. In addition to owners, Shawn and Stacie, Motel 89 also has 2 part-time employees. “Misty Erickson and Stacy Anderson basically run this place,” Stacie laughed. Both employees stay busy with taking reservations, housekeeping, laundry, maintaining the tanning room, and keeping an inventory of supplies. While Shawn takes care of maintenance and the lawn, Stacie stays busy behind the scenes. Heading into the office daily, she stays busy with paperwork and paying bills. She also does all of her apartment work at the office.
Did you know Meyer Management, LLC also manages Marbel Homes and Grgyla Family Housing? Shawn and Stacie have had that role since November of 2014. Marbel has 5 buildings in Grygla with 28 units; 19 of them occupied. Grygla Family Housing has all 4 of its units occupied, too. Between rent, bills, lots of maintenance and tenant files, the daily tasks add up fast! “Billy Landsrud is our onsite caretaker of Marbel Homes. Him and Shawn do a lot of maintenance,” Stacie offered. In the last 3 years since the Meyers took over, many upgrades have taken place. New appliances for every unit were installed, along with new flooring, new washer/dryer units and new shingles. Stacie said with the apartments, income needs to be recertified yearly, which is a lot of upkeep. 8 units are HUD approved and all else are USDA, which offers rental assistance to anyone who may qualify.
“We stay VERY busy, yes,” Stacie laughed. “But with our jobs we get to meet and talk to so many cool people!” Last summer, a couple flew from Norway to New York and spent 3 months pedal biking. They ended up staying at Motel 89 in Grygla as a stop on their way to Canada to catch their flight back to Norway! “People just love to share their stories and we love to listen,” she concluded.
After spending some time with Meyer Management, LLC last week, it’s evident that this couple has only good intentions and greater plans to improve the community in which they live in and open up their doors to.
Next week, I go “Behind the Scenes” with Pastor Vicki Worthington of Grace Lutheran and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
