America’s First Ladies Attracts a Good Crowd

Nearly 50 guests were in attendance to the Northern Exposure to Lifelong Learning program “America’s First Ladies Part 1” with speaker Doug Ohman on Wednesday morning April 15.   Doug gave a fascinating history lesson and shared fun facts about several of our First Ladies.  History and facts many of the guests did not know.  

Did you know Lucy Hayes was called “Lemonade Lucy” because she did not allow alcohol in the White House! She started the first Easter Egg Roll and the first to have a college education.

Abigail Adam’s was the most political.  Frances Cleveland being the youngest (21) to enter the White House and Louisa Adam’s raised silkworms. Helen Taft credited with bringing the Cherry Blossom Trees to DC. Martha Washington followed her husband to war.
