30th Kloster Park World Series Wraps Up A Great Summer!

Kloster League players, coaches and hundreds of fans were welcomed by a warm Northern Minnesota day for the 30th Kloster Park League World Series on Sunday, July 22nd at Clearbrook, MN. The day began with regular season awards given to each league or division champion and runner up. Before the awards presentation generous donations from Clearwater-Polk Round Up Trust, Clearbrook Community Club, Clearbrook American Legion, Gonvick Lions, Gonvick Diamond Jubilee, Gonvick American Legion, Clearwater Trail Blazers, Gully Tri-Coop, Garden Valley, Otter Tail Power, Leon, Holst & Sinclair Townships, Bakken’s, DaRoos, Drive In, Y92, NB &C, Kandi’s Kitchen, and some individuals were acknowledged. In addition, the City of Clearbrook was thanked for their upkeep of Kloster Park and Andy Anderson and Kyle Christianson for their work on the fields throughout the summer. Also, the Leon Ramblers 4H club was recognized for their donation of 9 large benches for seating.
The following teams were presented with awards: Northern League (girls ages 9-14)—Champion T-Bones and Runner up Goldeyes, Junior League (boys ages 9-11)—West Champion Angels and Runner-up Mariners, East Champion Red Sox and Runner up Orioles. Senior League (boys ages 12-14)—Champion Rockies and Runner up Giants.
The Northern League opened with the T-Bones defeating the Railcats, 15-1 and the Goldeyes slipped by the Redhawks, 4-1. The Railcats rebounded to capture third place defeating the Redhawks, 15-5. In the Championship the T-Bones captured the title with a narrow win over the Goldeyes, 8-5.
The opening rounds of the six team Junior League saw the Mariners defeat the Yankees, 17-5 and the Orioles defeated the A’s, 17-2. In the semi-finals the Red Sox beat the Mariners, 11-6 and the Angels came from behind to beat the upset minded Orioles, 14-13. The title game was a clash of the number one seeds and it proved to be a thrilling game with the Angels defeating the Red Sox, 3-1 to capture the 2018 World Series title. The A’s and Yankees battled for the Consolation title and the A’s managed a come from behind win, 10-9.
The three Senior league teams played a round robin tournament. The Rockies defeated the Dodgers, 15-8, the Giants won over the Rockies, 22-4 and then defeated the Dodgers, 17-10. The two best teams on the day then played in the Championship game with the Rockies squeaking by the Giants, 4-2, to win the 2018 title.
Upsets are the norm for the Kloster World Series but this year was very different with every game going according to seed, the first time in memory that has happened on World Series Day!
