2020 RLCC Curbside Graduation! Followed by Parade through Oklee & Plummer

Red Lake County Central High School’s Class of 2020 will have their “curbside” Diploma Presentation starting at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 22. The 29 Graduates and their parents will be lining up east and north of the school prior to the start of the ceremony. Cones with pictures of the Graduates will be in alphabetical order at designated positions for the cars to be on the ready for the presentation.
Beginning at 5:30 sharp, Pomp and Circumstance will begin playing and Principal Randy Pederson will call on the Aakhus family to begin the presentation of diplomas.
When the ceremony begins, the graduates and their parents will get out of their vehicle and come toward the front doors of the school. A table with hand sanitizer will be the first stop for the graduate. Parents will go directly to the photographer to ready themselves for a family picture in front of the RLCC HS sign. After hand sanitizer, while Mr. Pederson reads their name, the graduate will come to the table to get their diploma. The graduate will take their diploma and then turn their tassel over from the right side to the left side. The graduate will then take the correct number of flowers and then move over to the front of the school sign for a picture with their parents.
After the family picture, parents will then return to their vehicle and the graduate will go through the side door into the Multi-Purpose gym. The graduate will take their place on the risers so that an individual picture can be taken. These individual pictures will be photo-shopped into a class picture. Only graduates are allowed into the Multi-Purpose gym. After the photo the graduate will continue out the other door of the Multi-Purpose gym and then return to their parent’s vehicle.
The vehicle will then move forward to the correct position for the Parade route. School personnel will assist in getting them down to the correct position on Toupin Street, where Law Enforcement, The Oklee Fire Department and an RLCC #2906 School bus will be waiting. The Parade will weave through Oklee and then on to Plummer.
During the parade the people coming into the towns to see the Graduate Parade are expected to social distance, use safe practices and to not hand gifts and cards to the graduates.
On the evening of Tuesday, May 26th at 7:00 p.m. the “Virtual Commencement Ceremony” will be aired on the RLCC’s channel 35 on Garden Valley TV. The ceremony can also be viewed at 7:00 p.m. on the RLCC High School Facebook page and at rlcc2906.org. The Virtual Commencement Ceremony will feature a welcome by Superintendent Guetter and 3 student commencement addresses by Calyssa Eskeli, Derek Peterson and Christopher Longtin. Also included in the ceremony will be a choral selection by the trio of Abigail Walton, Adrianne Jones and Sidney Olson, the annual Senior Slideshow and remarks by Principal Randy Pederson along with the presentation of the Class of 2020.
"A special thank you to our graduates and their parents for their patience during this difficult time for them. It certainly will be a graduation to remember." said Pederson. He also wanted to thank the residents of Oklee and Plummer for allowing some disruption and "noise" while the parade winds through the two communities that evening.
