2019 Year in Review...

May 1, 2019
Mr. Randy Huie from Red Lake County Central High School was selected as the Minnesota State Student Council Advisor of the Year at the Minnesota State Student Council Convention and Banquet held April 6-8 in Medford, MN.
Rhonda Vettleson is the new Driver’s Education instructor for Red Lake County Central. Vettleson became a certified driving instructor in January 2019. She took five online classes through St. Cloud State University. After finishing those classes she had to do a road test with the head of driver’s education in Alexandria.
Red Lake County Central had 11 members from the band go to the Instrumental Contest Wednesday, April 17 at East Grand Forks High School. The 2019 instrumental competitors were either two points away from the Superior Rating or received the Superior Rating.
Hippity, Hoppity, the Easter Bunny found it’s way to Oklee on April 14th and the Easter Egg Hunt.
The weather is spring like and should stay around. Fields are drying up and ditches are emptying their load of water to the rivers, which have gone down some but are still quite high, but not really any flooding except for maybe a few fields right on the rivers.

The Salem Sunday school were pictured with bags they decorated as part of one of our Sunday school lessons "Jesus Feeds 5,000". They decorated the bags and with the help of the congregation, were able to fill the bags with needed items for people that may need a helping hand. The bags were brought to Inter County Community Council in Oklee to disperse as needed.
March Students of the Month recipients Bryn Vettleson and Adriel Bakken were pictured with the teachers who nominated them, Ms. Jessie Hamrum and Mrs. Patty Mickelson.
The Red Lake County Rebels went to Karlstad to play the Northern Freeze on Thursday, April 25. The Rebels came out on top 12-1. The Rebels scored three runs in the second inning and both teams scored a run in the third inning. In the fourth inning the Rebels added two more runs and scored six more in the fifth inning.
The Red Lake County Central Mustangs softball team fell short in a close game against the Fertile/Beltrami Falcons with a score of 4-5. They played Thursday, April 25 in Fertile.
We are now in May and the snow has melted!!! The farmers are still wondering when they can get in the field. It has been a cold winter and now a cold, wet spring. It doesn’t sound like it will be very warm this coming week either.
The Plummer American Legion Auxiliary met and voted for Citizenship award and Scholarship award. Sydnie Gunderson won for the Scholarship award and Sarah Gunderson won Citizenship.

Red Lake County Central Graduation will be held Friday, May 24, 2019 at the High School in Oklee. Speakers will be the top two students of the Class of 2019. They include Andrew Fish, son of Darin Fish and Sally Thompson; and Marie Johnson, daughter of Jeff and Pam Johnson.
Eli Magnell, age 11, shot his first turkey on May 5th hunting with his dad Isaac in East Polk County.
RLCC Wrestlers that achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher received a Spotlight on Scholarship Certificate: (Back) Gunnar Sandeen, Zoe Russillo, (Front) George Duden, Damon Ferguson, and Tristyn Ferguson. 
Red Lake County Fair Board put on a fund raiser for the Baja Race and Demolition on Sunday at the Plummer Hall. They served spaghetti, tossed salad, garlic toast, lemonade and coffee.
Jerome & Barb Novak went to St. George, Utah for a visit to their daughter’s home and to attend their Grandson’s graduation.
Immanuel WELCA held their Mother-Daughter Tea on Sunday, May 5th. Kelly Dodson led the program with “Treasures” as the theme, reminding us that we are more precious than gems, gold or any earthly item to God.

David R. Shetterly wrote a wonderful story about his uncle William Howard Shetterly. He died in 1943 in Sicily before David was born in 1947. As a young guy he heard stories about Uncle Howard and his WWII service in the Army Air Force, but never with much detail.
April 27th was the RLCC 2019 Junior- Senior prom. The juniors decorated the prom for the theme “Gold All Over the Ground.” Prom attendees from RLCC’s senior class were: Phillip Sorenson, Christian Baker, Isaac Eskeli, Nick Lill, Hannah Riendeau, Justin Nemic, Sydnie Gunderson, Tom Nelson, Sarah Christensen, Connor Lambert, Adrien Verbout, Alex Peterson, Austin Jensen, Julia Bernstein, Grace Gieseke, Daphney Koralewski, Tasha Manning, Lacey Pendelton, and Dawson Rystad. 
The Mustangs softball team played West Marshall at Warren on Friday, May 10th. The Mustangs would fall to the Fusion 4-0.
Rebels 4x800 team set the new RLC Rebels’ team record with a time of 9:37.88 on May 2. Team members were: Brenden Larson, Brock Tvedt, Brody Moen, and Blane Schmitz.
For RLCC’s April Students of the Month, Abigail Walton and Jonathon Roue, were nominated by  Mr. Bryan Paskvan.
This weekend we had cold weather but the promised rain held off. That was a good thing for those farmers who are trying to get crops in. Some are done with all their seeding, others are still working on it.

Red Lake County Central Graduation was held Friday, May 24, 2019 at the High School in Oklee. The ceremony began at 5:30 p.m. Twenty-five seniors received their diplomas and now are following their path to their future. 
Flowers were planted around Oklee this week including 420 red and white petunias at the Oklee Area Veterans Memorial! Volunteers with the Oklee Garden Club planted during a break in the weather. Working on this project were Barb Melby, Phyllis Melby, Linda McCloskeyRose Skallet and Mary Lynn Bachand.
Bonnie Borene is retiring from CHS Northland Grain and a party is planed to help her celebrate.
Twenty-one of Mrs. Patty Mickelson’s music students who had competed at vocal or instrumental contests during this school year gave a special performance at RLCC’s Music Night: Jayden Iverson, Leilah VanDam, Izzy Plante, Lilly Hanson, Emily Kolstoe, Noah Hanson, George Duden, Taya Morinville, AJ Jones, Bella Russillo, Katelyn Suchy, Phillip Sorenson, Karena Melby, Janae Olson, Adriel Bakken, Marie Johnson, Thomas Benson, Brody Moen, Brock Tvedt, Sidney Olson, and Abby Walton.
On May 5th, family – neighbors – friends gathered at the Al Ste. Marie farm for an evening of ditch cleaning. The group adopted Co. Rd. 12 between Hwy. 92 at Terrebonne, north 3 miles to Co. Rd. 1 in memory of Jeannette Ste. Marie, who was seen by many walking that road from Spring to Fall. The group plans on cleaning the ditch twice a year. Burger Brats and Beverages served after.
This was a busy Holiday Weekend. All the graduations and parties were in full swing. The rain didn’t help the guests but they didn’t mind with all the food and good visiting that went on. On Friday night the skies opened up to really heavy rain for some and the driving in that weather was hard. The visibility was scant to say the least.
