2018 French Trip

On Saturday, March 17 there were three different flights, one from Fargo to Chicago, Chicago to Newark, and Newark to Québec. The class arrived in Québec City at 3:30 pm and met Jacque, the tour guide.  After everyone was settled in their hotel rooms we went to go eat at Café du Monde. That was one of the fancier places we ate at. Next we went on a ferry that went across the St. Lawrence River to Lévis and back to Québec City.  

On Sunday, March 18 the group ate breakfast at Au Petit Coin Breton which was a crepe restaurant. Later we went on a walking tour of the upper and lower part of the fortified city of Quebec/the old part of the city. At lunch time we were able to walk around on our own where ever we had toured that day. Then at 3:30 pm we went to the Martello Tower which was one of the towers Quebec used to defend its self when the British were attacking. While there the soldier told us how soldiers lived in the 1800’s by having different activities for us. Next we went to dinner at Le petit Château where we had beef Fondue. Then we went to the Morrin Centre. The Morrin Centre was a college founded in 1824 and was previously a prison. There we did science experiments and learned about different things that were being discovered in the 19th century like how to extract copper.  

Monday morning March 19, breakfast was at the Quebec Parliament building. Then we got a tour of the building. After our tour we hopped on a bus and went to a Chocolate Museum where they had just about any kind of chocolate you’d like and anything made out of chocolate. Later we went to the Ice Hotel. The Hotel is made entirely out of ice and snow other than the lights, wiring, and fire places. They also have weddings there if you’re looking for something a little different. But if you don’t really want a cold wedding you can always go to the Ste. Anne Beaupré Cathedral which opened in 1949 and is 299 ft. tall. After exploring the Ste. Anne Beaupré Cathedral, we went to the Montmorency Falls. The water falls are 100 ft. higher than the Niagara Falls. At the falls we walked across a suspended bridge and on a trail along the river. On Monday we also went to a copper shop where we got to make out own etching. That night we ate at the Sugar Shack. At the Sugar Shack Jacque told us how the maple syrup and other products were made. We ate different foods made with maple and other French Canadian foods. Afterwards we went outside and had taffy on the snow which is when they take maple taffy and pour it on the snow and you eat it.

Tuesday, March 20 was our last day in Québec City so in the morning we ate breakfast at Cosmos Café then went on our way to the airport. We had three close flights and on our flight from Newark to Chicago they held the flight for us. We ended up getting in Fargo around midnight and home around 1:30 am.
