2017 Spring Student Council Summit

The day started off with a welcome speech by RLCC Principal Mr. Randy Pederson followed by an icebreaker game.  The students got pipe cleaners with three of the same color of beads.  They had to find three other students who had different color in order to win. After the icebreaker game the executive board candidates gave a two minute speech on why they should be voted for office.

  There was a primary vote for the for the President and Vice President candidates. Running for President were Brandon Stanley from Goodridge, Brayden Sorenson from Fosston, and Kathryn Kurta from Thief River Falls. For Vice President it was between Madison Paulson from Goodridge, Carlye Kiesow from Grygla, and Sydney Melby from RLCC. The top two candidates who made to the final vote was Braydon Sorenson and Kathryn Kruta and for Vice President Carlye Kiesow and Sydney Melby.  Abbey Johnson and Jade Person also made it to the final vote for Treasurer.

After lunch each of the candidates were asked various questions about why they were running for the position. After the questioning there was a final vote for President, Vice President, and Treasurer. Kathryn Kruta won the final vote for President, Carlye Kiesow won for Vice President, and Hailey Vad won for Secretary, Abbey Johnson for Treasurer, and Bailey Watne and Calyssa Eskeli for Representatives. 

Since there were only two candidates running for Representatives and three spots open any candidate from any office who didn’t win in the final round was eligible to run for Representative. There was another round of questions and closing speeches with Brayden Sorenson being voted to fill the third Representative position. 

Since the RLCC Student Council was the host of the Summit, the members were responsible for planning and setting up the event. The student council members made all of the posters and decorations for the Summit. They were led by RLCC Student Senate Advisor Mr. Randy Huie.
