Open House at History Center to Honor Volunteer Virgil Prestby

The History Center in Shevlin will be open Sunday May 17 to celebrate Virgil Prestby as an outstanding volunteer.

Virgil was recently awarded an Outstanding Volunteer Award for 2026 from the Minnesota Alliance of Local History Museums.(MALHM)   “Many volunteers across the state of Minnesota dedicate their time and resources to preserve and share our collective history. We want to celebrate their contributions on a state wide level year after year said MALHM coordinator Liz Koele.

Virgil is a long time volunteer at the Clearwater County Historical Society museum in She. He was instrumental is developing several exhibits in the historic buildings as well as lending his expertise in identifying tools and other “what’s it?” artifacts.

The open house will be from 1:00- 3:00 Sunday May 17^th. The museum as well as the historic buildings will be open. There is no admission fee to visit the museum.

The Minnesota Alliance of Local History Museum organized in 1991 with the motto of “peers helping peers.” It is a statewide organization that nurtures and encourages an appreciation of the local history of the state of Minnesota by providing the structure to foster collaborative local history projects, communicate curatorial and educational information, and encourage professionalism among local and specialized historical organizations in Minnesota.  More information on the organization can be found at www.mnhistoryalliance.org.
