He has been going to various places to answer questions on the upcoming Ballot Questions for the school district proposed improvements. There are meetings planned, one that was held on Wednesday, October 17 at 6:00 p.m. at the Clearbrook-Gonvick School. The other three will be is Monday, October 29 at the Clear Waters Life Center in Gonvick at 6:30 p.m. and October 30th at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall in Leonard and November 1 at Sand Valley Church at 6:30 p.m. He informed the board that the various steps have been completed thus far. A flyer was sent out to all current residents in Clearbrook, Gonvick, Leonard, Trail and Gully to inform everyone on the Plan, Ballot Questions, Tax Impact and Voting Information. Board Chairman Jeff Westrum wanted to thank the people who have put effort forth on the referendum resolution.
Other items that he brought up were: The building trash compactor should be at the school by the end of October or early November. This should help to get the trash collection down. The enrollment sits at 25 to 30 students over last year. The district did not get the School Safety Grant. 25 million was proposed. Minneapolis received 2.5 of that amount. It was done on a lottery system. Two compressors had to be replaced for $4,600. The ice machine had to be replaced for $2,000. Cost to fix would be about the same amount so they decided to go with a new one. MCA testing will be starting.
Kim Anderson, gave the Spotlight on Education. The third grade students visited the school forest. Nate Watne and Nolan Eck answered many questions for the class. The 4th grade were bridge engineers. The sixth grade received their first books from Scholastic Book Club. The high school Science class made salsa. Products for the salsa were brought from area groups.
