Newton retires from mail route

Norm Newton has recently celebrated his retirement after 22 years as a Mail Carrier. Norm was born in Wichita Falls and lived there for a few years. He moved around quite a bit due to his father accepting an electrician job in Oklahoma. His father passed away when he was 6 years old so his mother relocated to Minneapolis. Norm then grew up and attended schools in the Cities area.
When he grew up he spent a bit of time serving in the United States Navy. He started on a Navy Destroyer. He then worked on an aircraft carrier named the USS Kitty Hawk. He served from February 1969-1973.
Norm has driven 121 miles, 6 days a week, for 22 years. When he was not working he spent his free time relaxing, mostly fishing.
Norm started his typical workday at 8:00 in the morning. He began by sorting mail and loading it up in his vehicle for the day.
Speaking of vehicles, Norm used at least 2 vehicles each day. Quite often he found himself going through 4 vehicles each day. His favorite vehicle was a Station Wagon, though he also used Chevy S10 Blazers with 4-wheel drives.  After he loaded up the mail that needed to be delivered, he began his 121 mile journey each day.
He started with Gonvick route 2, then Gully route 1, and then he went through Trail. Norm said that his drive was very scenic and beautiful.  His favorite part of the job was delivering during Christmas time.  He enjoyed the busyness of the time and he loved to keep the people of the area very happy.
Norm Newton plans to spend time with family during his retirement. He also plans to spend a lot of time on the lake and in the stand hunting. Thank You Norm for your many years of compassion and dedication towards our community.
