The Wax Museum of Famous Explorers was back again for its second year in Mrs. Hegg’s First Grade Class at the Clearbrook-Gonvick School! They opened their doors last Thursday and Friday, November 15 & 16. Thursday was their dress rehearsal where the student body reserved their turn to see these wax characters come alive! On Friday, they gave their final appearance for their parents, families, and friends. The children stood like statues at their desk while their guests touched the button next to their posters and our wax explorers came alive; reciting four sentences about their character! These First Graders gave an outstanding performance!
Their teacher, Mrs. Darcy Hegg says that she loves preparing and teaching about this special event because it covers many state standards in Social Studies, Reading, and Public Speaking and it is a family project that engages the whole community in learning about Famous Explorers and the contribution they made to our world.
The children researched their explorer along with their parents to decide on three main ideas they were willing to share about their explorer. Parents helped design their child’s costume after a picture that was displayed on their student’s poster. Then these First Graders practiced their lines with each other and by the end, each first grader knew 3 facts about 14 different explorers!
Mrs. Hegg would like to thank the staff, the student body, and their families of Clearbrook-Gonvick School for attending and supporting this event!! The personal comments and reactions of their guests assured them that their guests enjoyed learning right along with them!!
