Brooke Bakke has spent the last five years going to school. She went through the two year program at St. Cloud in the Dental Hygiene program and one year of pre-requisites. She also spent time at Northern Technical College in Bemidji for Dental Assisting. Now she is starting on her career.
Randy Beard at Clearbrook Dental hired Brooke to work the three days that they are open in Clearbrook. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and they are accepting new patients.
Hygienists are in demand in general dental practices and Brooke has a second job at Hazelton Family Dentistry in Bemidji the other two days. However, she has to drive from her home in Clover Township, north of Clearbrook which takes a little longer.
When Brooke was getting her degrees she worked summer and holidays which was a plus for her in Dental Hygienist school.
In order to get her licensure for Dental Hygienist Brooks had to have a signed diploma from a dental hygiene school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and have a background check. She had to pass an exam within 5 years of completing her schooling. She was set to take her exams on July 22 of this year. That day turned out to be a long hard day and it was also blessed. Brooks was to take her mother with her to take her dental exam and when she got to the house it was a stressful situation. Her parents Steve and Julie Wraa and her two nieces were showing signs and symptoms of asphyxia. Electricity had been off for a few days and an outside generator caused carbon monoxide poisoning. Fire department and police were called and the parents were taken by ambulance and air lifted to Minneapolis. Brooke stated that she was blessed because if she had not come for her mother to take her exam things would have been much worse. Her parents and nieces are well on their way to recovery.
Brooke is married to Brennan Bakke and they like any outdoor activities including hunting. When she was 16 years old she got a 10-point buck on the family farm hunting opener. The 180-pound buck took the lead in the youth contest at Gander Mountain in Bemdji. She also likes to do craft and baking and she will be able to do a little more of that instead of having to study.
