Delta Kappa Gamma MU Chapter, October meeting

Our Oct. meeting was held at Concordia Language Camp in Salolampi - the Finnish Village!
The first order of business was to fill 61 bags of school supplies for the 61 NEW teachers in our chapter schools!! What fun to see all the varied items everyone came up with this year!! At the end of the meeting lots of volunteers picked up the bags & the cards for each teacher. This is always a great way to welcome these educators. Then we had a hearty German brunch served by the Language Camp staff. Sehr Gut!!!
As part of her President’s report, Michelle; who is also our State President let us know she is looking for members to serve on state committees and for 3 members to chair state committees. She reminded us that our annual Christmas Tea will be on Dec. 7th, 9:30 AM at Calvary Lutheran Church. Our theme is the country of Spain, and Christina Baltes offered to be the speaker.
Our Guest speaker was MN Naturalist, Janet Nelson, speaking on the “Dragonflies & and Damselflies of MN”. Janet started out as an investigator who got interested in photography as a way to give her an “in” as a patrol officer.
After retirement she began giving State Park classes on Dragonflies & Damselflies in MN. Did you know there are 152-157 species in MN & 75 in Beltrami County? Her marvelous photography gave us a look at these fascinating creatures & also some tips about how to use our own cameras to get close enough to catch them performing amazing behaviors. What a fun nature class!!!
