The Clearbrook-Gonvick School board met in regular session on Monday, September 18. Community comments were given by Yolanda Dahlke who is the co-chair of the District' American Indian Education Parent Advisory Committee. She asked for information on the balance of their funds. She would like a comparison from past years as well as what funding has been spent on their para's for the students.
Mr. Bettin gave a back to school review of activities for the beginning of the year. Homecoming Week has been set for October 2 through the 6. Coronation will be on Monday October 2 at 2:30 in the afternoon. The Homecoming parade will be held October 6 in Gonvick this year.
Principals report
Josh Tharaldson stated that both the Elementary Entrance Conferences and High school Open House went well and he had heard positive feedback from families and staff.
Elementary teachers are screening their classes to get baseline data on their students in reading and math Students will again be screened during winter and spring.
He has submitted Title I, Title II and Title IV grant applications and is waiting back to hear from the state if any revisions have to be made.
Students and staff are encouraged to participate in school spirit events event by wearing "Bear Wear" or school color clothing on Fridays. A treat is given to the winners.
The school has one foreign exchange student with Eliana Rojas. She started last spring and will be in the district through the semester.
October 11 will be parent teacher conferences from 2:30 to 7:00 p.m.
Superintendent report
Ryan Grow have his report that the district is still looking for an assistant Boys Basketball coach and a Junior High Coach along with a full time custodian.
With the enrollment increase there is also need for special education help extra para professionals will be needed.
The legislative change that affects school resource officers to be removed from the school was to have made an impact on Andy Anderson who has been (SRO)at that position for the district. That program will be continued through the county.
Trap Shooting will continued at the school under the direction of Amy.
The school car project was sold through the on line auction for $14,500. Those funds will be put in the general fund. The Industrial Arts teacher doe not have a background to do that project along with his other duties.
Bob Pond was in to replace the cement that had started to chip and flak. Enrollment is up from 512 last May to 518 the start of the school year. There are 10 inactive families that have not responded.
Transportation Committee has a new form for discipline that bus drivers can turn into the office about students behavior on the bus.
Old business
A board work session was set up for September 26 at 6:00 p.m. The board retreat would also be discussed at that meeting.
New business
The board approved the unpaid leave requests from Marinda McRunnel for Wednesday, October 18 and from Kyle Christianson for two days October 31 and November 1.
The board approved lane advancement for Darcy Hegg from BA40 to MA 10; for Jessica Larson from BA 20 to BA 40 MA and Abigail Lauderbaugh from BA to BA 10.
The board set the Truth in Taxation meeting from December 18 at 7:00 p.m.
The names of the election judges for the November 7, 2023 School District Special Election was set. Names included: Brooke Pond Gary Prosser, Heidi Johnson, Joy Walberg, Lloyd Engen, Lucie Thompson, Sheryll Petterson, Stephanie Anderson.
Tabled was the approval of the Contract with Nerdy Customs for Onsite Helpdesk Support.
The consent calendar was approved with $560,548.39 in Total Non-payroll and $186,686.44 in payroll for a total of $747,234.83. Total cash and investments for the district were $5,383,638.07. Some payments were made to Stein's Bus Service LLC $53,033.75; Garden Valley Telephone Co. $40,168.09; Eide Bailly $27,990.00; Knutson, Flynn & Deans $12,660.09; Rogers Two Way Radio $6,303.00; Clearwater-Polk Electric $4,167.58; Bessler Electric $2,490.44; Clearwater County Treasurer $2,415.99; Bemidi Bus Line $2,400.00; Techers On Call $2,274.43, Listrom Disposal $1,755.00; Garden Valley Telephone Company $1,126,37.
