Five Clearbrook-Gonvick students who are members of the school’s FFA chapter experienced a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity attending the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, October 19 through October 22. Students and their advisor, Kim Anderson, traveled with other school districts in their region to participate in all that the convention had to offer and more.
Freshmen Savanna Rankin and Naomi Shamp, along with eighth graders Wyatt Anderson, Kayla Ehlers, and Obadiah Hammer, raised money through their work in the Clearwater County Dairy Association Malt Stand at the Clearwater County Fair in order to fund their trip. They set a goal to attend the convention and, with the help of parent and student volunteers, they were able to make the trip happen.
National FFA Convention hosts approximately 63,000 FFA members and guests throughout the four day event. FFA members and advisors gather for general sessions, workshops, and participate in the FFA Expo put on by numerous agriculture industry businesses and colleges.
At general sessions, students were able to witness official FFA opening and closing ceremonies, award ceremonies, performances by participants in the National FFA Talent Contest, performances by the National FFA Choir and National FFA Band, and listen to motivating keynote speakers who encourage youth to become involved in their communities and schools.
The Clearbrook-Gonvick students attended multiple workshops throughout the convention in which they were motivated to promote agricultural education within their school and community. Through these workshops they met members of FFA from all across the United States and also leaders from the agriculture industry.
The Clearbrook-Gonvick FFA would like to thank the Dairy Association and all of the supporters including parents who give up so much of their time to volunteer, the Clearbrook-Gonvick school district for supporting their program, and all who visited the malt stand at the county fair for helping to make this trip possible!
