Jacie Bergerson, a fourth grade student at the Clearbrook-Gonvick School, was the Grand Prize winner of the annual Poppy Poster contest. She is the daughter of Jeremy and Cathy Bergerson of Gully.
The contest is sponsored by the Gonvick American Legion Auxiliary and the Clearbrook American Legion Auxiliary each year. Students in the fourth and fifth grade are assisted by their teachers to make the project possible for the auxiliaries.
Jacie was awarded $15 for her efforts. The other winners included 4th graders : Emma Fawver-1st ($10); Mikaela Weems-2nd ($7); and Amelia Machlitt-3rd ($5).
Fifth grade winners included Aubrey Stoskopf-1st ($10); Vernelle Kingbird Spears-2nd ($7); and Serenity Daken-3rd ($7).
Every student and teacher who participated received a Hershey candy bar.
Jacie's winning poster will be submitted to the District 9 Legion and Auxiliary contest for further judging. The winner here will be sent to the state for that contest.
The posters will be displayed in businesses throughout Gully-Trail, Gonvick, and Clearbrook, where they will add to the meaning of honoring our military on Memorial Day.
