Lou Nylen estate leaves $10,000 to Clearbrook-Gonvick School

Clearbrook-Gonvick School board at their regular monthly meeting on January 26, 2016 were notificated that the district had received $10,000 from the estate of Lou Ann Nylen. The donation was to be used only for the Clearbrook-Gonvick School Library.

Lou Ann Nylen 77, of Duluth, passed away peacefully after a long struggle with her illness, on Monday, Aug. 18, 2014.

Lou loved to teach; she taught Art in several area schools, touching many lives until she retired. She enjoyed making pottery, drawing, painting, photography, and especially taking care of her geese and ducks.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jay Steele.

Lou is survived by her son, Rod Steele; sister, Joanne Jarrgues; longtime friend and caregiver, Patti Erickson; grandchildren, Joshua E Lucas, and Jacob A Halbrook; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday, August 25, 2014 under the direction of the Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2nd Street, Duluth, MN, 55805, 218-727-3555.

Her father Ruben was born in Donnelly, MN and her mother Mildred in Bobells, ND. They met in Barrett and in 1928 Dr. and Mrs. Anderson moved to Clearbrook and started a practice. They lived upstairs in the Mercantile Store and had a long stairway with the office upstairs.

Lou Ann was born on October 7, 1936 and was adopted in 1938 by Dr. Ruben and Mildred Anderson. They moved to the building which now houses the Clearbrook-Leonard Senior Center and had their dental office there. That building also housed the Clearbrook Post Office.

Lou Ann was a 1954 graduate of Clearbrook High School.
