Audit report given to Clearbrook-Gonvick board
Brian Opsahl with Brady Martz Certified Public Accountants from Grand Forks presented the audit report at the Clearbrook-Gonvick School Board regular monthly meeting on Monday, November 16. The situation of the district is on the right track. The key financial position increased by $697,944 over the prior year from current year activity. Overall, the actual revenues in the Statement of Activities were $6,268,921 and expenses were $5,570,977. The General Fund revenues and other financing sources were more than General Fund expenditures by $301,381. This was due to local and county revenues being higher than expected.
One item mentioned by Opsahl was the size and budget constraints limiting the number of personnel within the accounting department. He recommended a plan of action, 1. Review and approval of journal entries by superintendent, 2. Board approves checks 3. Superintendent periodically reviews bank statement before turning it over to the business office for reconciliation.
Spotlight on Education
Andy Anderson, Behavior Interventionist for the district explained his duties to the board. He works with behavior referrals. He tries to have them do something positive for the school or the community. He enters and tracks attendance. Prepares truancy reports and attends court hearings. There is nothing major in the school at this time. This is his second school year. He and his wife have a 4 year old daughter and they live in Bagley.
Principals Report
Jeff Burgess reported that conferences were higher than normal attendance. They served about 260 at the dinner. The career fair went well.
The Impact 20/20 with area colleges provided information on a variety of subjects. All 9-12 students took part.
The Native American Position stated last week with the 4th, 5th and 6th. Six kids are being helped after school with transportation provided. They are still identifying students of needs.
They had a meeting with bus drivers to come up with common expectations for bussing. They need to have consistency in rules. Students were brought in for their opinion. The key issues are food and drink on the bus.
Staff development focused on curriculum mapping for K to 12 so that everyone knows what is being done. Staff had synergy training that went well.
Superintendent Report
Superintendent Wayne Olson stated that a donation check for $5,000 will be put into the car fund. This will be for next year when Ross Faldet starts the car project again in the shop class. The new water softener parts are in and will be done shortly. Cost will be obtained for a custodial closet and new sealing for the parking lot.
The district received $500 for the items that were up for bids. They received more than if they would have received scrap metal money for them.
The school board association meeting is set for January 14 and 15.
January and February meeting dates were set for January 25 and February 23 due to conflicts with national holidays.
Consent calendar was approved for electronic transfers, treasurer’s report and bills. Some of the bills included: Marco-Cisco Equipment Lease $55,204.70; Stein’s Bus Service LLC $49,827.90; Clearwater-Polk Electric $22,147.50; Marco $7,907.31; Community Oil Co. $6,077.98; Brady, Martz and Associate $2,400.00; Anderson Disposal $1,809.70; Garden Valley Telephone Co. $1,523.32, City of Clearbrook $1,444.74.

They approved the hiring of LeeAnn Vettleson as Finance Director to replace Lori Wollman. She will be taking more training the in future.
