Volleyball ‘Pink Out’ night benefits four Charger family members

The Goodridge/Grygla Chargers Volleyball team held their ‘Pink Out’ night last week at their last regular season home game in Goodridge against Stephen/Argyle. Many people supported the event that was held in honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All proceeds from the event are being donated to four Charger family members whose lives have recently been affected by cancer.

Edward Monson

Edward Monson, grandfather of Alaina Monson, is a 9-year survivor of pancreatic cancer. In August, he was diagnosed with colon cancer. After an extended stay at the hospital, Ed is now home recuperating and awaits the next step in his battle against cancer. His son, Greg Monson, stepped in on his behalf.

Sharon Hovet

Sharon Hovet, grandmother of Chloe Kuznia, found out she had a mass on her right kidney in October 2016. She had surgery to remove part of her kidney. After she returned home, she was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. She has had 2 surgeries multiple rounds of radiation. She continues to take chemotherapy pills and is currently cancer free.

Mary Ann Sjulestad

Mary Ann Sjulestad, great aunt of Coach Katelyn Tharaldson and Madison Paulson, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in August and has just finished a radioactive iodine treatment. Her latest scan showed significant signs that the majority of the cancer has been killed, but she will need a follow up in 3 months. She has undergone 2 surgeries to completely remove her thyroid.

Treston Magner

Treston Magner, cousin of Coach Katelyn Tharaldson, and husband to Goodridge graduate, Kayla (Tharaldson) Magner, was diagnosed with a brain tumor on September 1st. Treston had surgery on September 21st at the Mayo Clinic and received news that, although it is cancerous, it’s unable to spread to any other part of his body. Treston will need both radiation and chemo for his treatment.
