Wow what a gift. The University of Minnesota Crookston celebrates its largest gift in history after receiving a $6.2 million donation from alumnus Les and his wife June Nielsen. An upcoming naming and dedication of the campus wellness center, which will be called the Nielsen Family Wellness Center, is in recognition of the multi-million dollar gift.
Les Nielsen and his wife, June, who sadly passed away in September 2025, have been dedicating donors to UMN Crookston for decades. They’ve provided impactful scholarships for hundreds of students since the 1990s, most recently a full tuition scholarship for students living in the Minnesota communities of Red Lake Falls, Grygla, Clearbrook, Gonvick, Goodridge, and Euclid. They also donated $1 million to the wellness center project ahead of its grand opening 10 years ago in memory of their son, Mitch Lien Nielsen, who tragically passed away in 1989 after a motorcycle accident. They are summer residents of Gonvick.

Hostfest in Minot The board of directors of Norsk Hostfest say the annual Scandinavian festival is ending.
The board says rising costs and declining attendance led to the decision.
The festival was founded in 1978 by a group who wanted to celebrate Nordic culture through community, music, art, food, and education.
The board says that while the festival will not continue, people will still be able to visit the Scandinavian Heritage Park in Minot.

R&B legends are coming together to kick off a tour in St. Paul. Lionel Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire will embark on a 26-date tour that begins at Grand Casino Arena on June 24, just as they started a joint trek in 2023.
Both groups produced a litany of classic songs beginning in the '70s when Richie was a member of the Commodores. Richie continued to release time-tested hits after going solo, including songs like "Hello" and "Dancing on the Ceiling."
Ole and Sven
Ole told Sven, “Why did the art thief’s van run out of gas as he drove away from the Museum? It was because he had no Monet to buy DeGas to make the Van Gogh”
Ole was having a vision of the state of the world today and the permissiveness of society. He told the pastor if Moses was around today, instead of the Ten Commandments, he would come down the mountain with the Ten Suggestions.
