Congratulations to Ava Larson from Clearbrook-Gonvick High School recently received a Flint Hills Discovery Scholarship, recognizing her excellence in the classroom as well as her contributions to her community and her entrepreneurial spirit. She is one of 33 recipients from 21 Minnesota and Wisconsin high schools to receive Discovery Scholarships this year. Since it began the Discovery Scholarship program in 1991, Flint Hills Resources has awarded more than 1,200 scholarships to local students, totaling more than $2.5 million.

Granlund Lodge #240 Sons of Norway Summer Picnic
The Granlund Lodge #240 of the Sons of Norway will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, July 9th, at 6:30 at the Embassy Community Center in Fosston. After the meeting there will be a Potluck Summer Picnic followed by the annual Cornhole challenge. Members are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to go with the grilled burgers supplied by the lodge. As always, visitors and guests are invited to attend. Gonvick’s 36th Annual Rodeo Days will be held July 10th & July 11th. We would like to invite you to be in our Rodeo Days Parade!! The parade will be held on Saturday, July 11th. Registration is from 12:30 to 1:45, with the parade to begin at 2 p.m. Check-in point will be on Railroad Avenue east of the Community Center. We will give you your parade number when you check in. We will have numbered stakes for the parade line-up to match with your parade entry number.
Vacation Bible School at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Clearbrook will be Rainforest Falls Exploring the Nature of God. Dates are set for August 11 to 13 pm 9:00 a.m. to noon. Bring your own lunches. Look for registration information to be mailed. Open to kids going into Grades 1 to 5.

Janet Knutson has published a new book
Janet Helene Hanson Knutson has written a poetry book. After several people urged her to get one done. She has published her first one, “Keeper of the Tree: A memoir in poems, prose, and historical nonfiction.” She was born in Berner to parents Alfred and Emma Hanson. Her two brothers Don and Bob completed the family. She enjoys writing and has submitted articles, historical information and pictures to area history books that have been printed. She and her husband Lloyd were married for 67 years. They had two sons Daniel and Dean. He passed away In October last year and the book was dedicated in his memory.

In addition to the name change, they are renovating the store’s interior and updating features to enhance your shopping experience at this long-time community staple. You can expect fresh produce, quality meats, and more as they invest in the store. Look for professionally smoked meats to be available in the near future. Their goal is to make it convenient and easy for shoppers to find what they need for tonight’s dinner. Principal Tharaldson says Clearbrook-Gonvick students have registered for their classes next year. New students will have an opportunity to register in the fall at the back-to-school registration event. New Families with students who would be interested in attending Clearbrook-Gonvick next year are encouraged to contact the office to start the registration process this spring before summer break for planning purposes. The History Center in Shevlin Began Summer Hours. The History Center in Shevlin started its summer hours. The museum and historical buildings are now open Tuesday through Friday from 10:00-4:00 and Saturday from 10:00 to 2:00. There are all new exhibits in the main gallery and several new items inside the historic buildings. Free admission, donations welcome. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is waiving vehicle permit fees at all 73 state parks and recreation areas. This Free Park Day is one of four days each year on which visitors don’t need a vehicle permit at state parks and recreation areas. The DNR offers one-free day in each season, giving Minnesotans an opportunity to experience the parks at different times of year.
