Minnesota voters are deciding this fall whether schools should get more money from a state trust fund. The constitutional amendment would increase payouts from the Permanent School Fund. The fund was established in 1858 with proceeds from the sale of timber and minerals. Supporters say the change could give districts more flexible funding without raising taxes. Advocates are trying to raise awareness of the amendment because ballots with the question left blank will be counted as no votes against the proposal.
The Clearwater County Fair is coming August 5 to 9. They will be having the cutest baby picture contest. Send those pictures of 18 months and younger to be judged. Mail them to Terri Derby at 34180 180th Ave Bagley, MN 56621 by July 30.
The 27-mile Wildlife Drive within the Roseau River Wildlife Management Area will be open July 18-26, Aug. 1-2 and Aug. 8-9. The self-guided tour allows visitors to experience wetland, woodland, brushland and grassland habitats, providing ample opportunities for wildlife viewing. Roseau River WMA managed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and located 20 miles northwest of Roseau, is part of the Pine to Prairie Birding Trail, which consists of 45 sites spanning a 223-mile corridor in the northwestern part of the state.

Trey Goudge golfing at Ruttger’s Jack’s Golf Course in Deerwood, had a hole-in- one Wednesday, July 8. He hit his pitching wedge 120 yards on the par-3 hole #15 for a successful hole-in one. Trey was golfing with Grandpa Jim Goudge, Uncle Chance Goudge, and Lucas Bakken.
Minnesota has been hit with extreme heat this past week. The Boundary Waters area is closed for precaution.
The 42nd annual Blackduck Woodcarvers Festival will take place on Saturday, July 25th from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The Minnesota DFL race for U.S. Senate remains close. The candidates are Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan and Congresswoman Angie Craig. The polls show that the race very tight, with some polls showing Craig ahead and some showing Flanagan ahead. New campaign finance figures are expected to be released. The primary election is set for August 11.
A semi-trailer carrying bison carcasses tipped, causing hours of disruption on Interstate 94 in Fargo last weekend. On Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m., North Dakota State Patrol troopers were called to eastbound I-94 between Veterans Boulevard and 45th Street in Fargo on reports of a large debris spill.
The Altru Clinic in Erskine will be closing as of August 14, 2026. They do have clinics in Crookston, Thief River Falls and Red Lake Falls.

The History Center in Shevlin Began Summer Hours. The History Center in Shevlin started its summer hours. The museum and historical buildings are now open Tuesday through Friday from 10:00-4:00 and Saturday from 10:00 to 2:00. There are all new exhibits in the main gallery and several new items inside the historic buildings. Free admission, donations welcome. Officials confirmed Monday two of three missing boaters recovered from Lake Pepin last week were members of the Wabasha Fire Department. Three people died and three others were rescued after a pontoon collided with another boat Saturday night on Lake Pepin.
Investigators say Somali gang violence is growing quickly and now spans the metro, with 12 Somali gangs tracked from Minneapolis and St. Paul to St. Cloud, Apple Valley and Burnsville. Most of the violence involves guns, according to the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is waiving vehicle permit fees at all 73 state parks and recreation areas. This Free Park Day is one of four days each year on which visitors don’t need a vehicle permit at state parks and recreation areas. The DNR offers one-free day in each season, giving Minnesotans an opportunity to experience the parks at different times of year.
