Backpack/School Supply Distribution
There will be a Backpack/School Supply Distribution at Country Faith Church at 46125 – 149th Ave, Clearbrook (from Clearbrook, 1 mile south, 2 miles west on Cty. Rd. 6) on Thursday, August 20th, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. (Doors open at 5:45pm.) FREE Backpacks and school supplies will be available for families who could use a little help with this school expense. If this is something that could help your family, please come. If you have questions, would like to donate supplies, or would like to receive supplies but are unable to come that night, please call: Country Faith Church 218-776-3367. Backpacks & supplies are given on a first come-first serve basis, so please try and make it to the event.
Clearwater County Quilters Guild will meet August 19,20 and 21st at Gonvick Community Center. All are welcome to attend.

We collect used eyeglasses in the Richards Publishing office in Gonvick. They are for the Lions Club.
Minnesota voters are deciding this fall whether schools should get more money from a state trust fund. The constitutional amendment would increase payouts from the Permanent School Fund. The fund was established in 1858 with proceeds from the sale of timber and minerals. Supporters say the change could give districts more flexible funding without raising taxes. Advocates are trying to raise awareness of the amendment because ballots with the question left blank will be counted as no votes against the proposal.

In addition to the name change, they are renovating the store’s interior and updating features to enhance your shopping experience at this long-time community staple. Their goal is to make it convenient and easy for shoppers to find what they need for tonight’s dinner. Vacation Bible School at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Clearbrook will be Rainforest Falls Exploring the Nature of God. Dates are set for August 11 to 13 pm 9:00 a.m. to noon. Bring your own lunches. Look for registration information to be mailed. Open to kids going into Grades 1 to 5.

Tidbits
The US Trade Representative flew to a hillside in Utah's Lake Mountains on July 17 for an announcement most reporters missed. A Provo-based company called Ionic Mineral Technologies had just confirmed a resource containing 19 critical minerals worth an estimated $12.1 billion after tax.
Fire at JRS in Fosston - The Fosston Fire Department responded to a fire at the JRS facility (formerly SunOpta/Land O’Lakes) in Fosston last week. As a safety precaution, power and utilities to the facility were shut off. emergency crews respond.
Phil Juve, the Fosston Police Chief will be retiring December 15.
The Clearbrook Dental office is open three days a week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. They are open from 8:00 to 4:00 p.m. Call Dr. Richard Johnson at 218-776-3558.
The Altru Clinic in Erskine will be closing as of August 14, 2026. They do have clinics in Crookston, Thief River Falls and Red Lake Falls.
