April 15 - Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life, Chapter 45, will host a Celebrate Life Event at 7:00 p.m. at the McIntosh Community Center, 115 Broadway St. NW, McIntosh, MN. The featured speaker will be Tim Mosser, presenting “I Came That They Might Have Life.” A taco supper will be served at 6:00 p.m. prior to the event. The public is welcome to attend, and youth are especially encouraged to participate.

April 21 – Clearbrook-Leonard Senior Citizens Center present April Musical Guests of John and Cindy Kingsbury at noon. Free to attend. Door prizes.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is waiving vehicle permit fees at all 73 state parks and recreation areas. This Free Park Day is one of four days each year on which visitors don’t need a vehicle permit at state parks and recreation areas. The DNR offers one-free day in each season, giving Minnesotans an opportunity to experience the parks at different times of year.

Tidbits
We got some more snow… up to 14 inches at my house. That was April 3 and 4. No April fools joke. A friend was coming to town. He had his pickup outside and he got all the snow off his windshield and then proceeded to back up to get out of his driveway and all the snow from the top of his pickup slide done over his windshield.
Congratulations to Garrett and Elizabeth Riek on the birth of their baby girl. Jordan Elizabeth will join her brother Lucas. She was born March 31, 2026 at 8 pounds 11 ounces and was 22 inches long.
Last week a train derailed at Warroad. It happened early morning on March 28. Some homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure. Warroad Fire Chief Damian McMillin said some of the overturned cars on the Canadian National line alongside Hwy. 313 are considered "dangerous goods" cars, but there's no evidence they were leaking as of noon Saturday.
The Bemidji School board voted to keep the JW Smith Elementary school open for another year. They will be seeing what needs to be done with cost rising to go another year.
RiverFest in Thief River Falls returns after two years. It will be held at Hartz Park at the Pennington County Fairgrounds. July 31 with local singers and songwriters at 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 pm local band Drive will perform. Saturday, August 1 will have three bands including: Kenny & The Classics, The Silver Mullet Band and Free Fallin. There will be other events going on as well.
Red Lake County finishes 4th place at State Boys Basketball Tournament, wrapping up another season at state. Henning Hornets pulled away for a 79-67 victory in the Class A Third Place Game at the Ganglehoff Center in St. Paul on Saturday. Will was named to the All-Tournament team. Will averaged 21 points per game, 6 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game, along with playing outstanding defense in all three games. The RLCC Rebels will miss the following seniors next year. Ethan Johnson, Gunnar Halverson, Will Gieseke, Atley Vettleson, Logan Vettleson, Nick Suchy, Connor Duden and Alex Renner.
Minnesota West Community and Technical College claimed their second national title as they won the 2026 DIII Women's National Championship. Northland Community and Technical College defeated Fulton-Montgomery 86-60 to take the third-place game at the tournament.
Authorities believe alcohol was a factor in a head-on car crash Sunday evening that left two adults dead and two children injured. The crash happened on Highway 71 near Albert Avenue South in Park Rapids around 8:15 p.m. The Minnesota State Patrol says a driver in a Ford F150 crossed the center line and collided with a KIA Telluride.
Bradley Hayes, 45, who was driving the Ford died in the crash, as well as 39-year-old Kimberly Rife, who was driving the KIA. The state patrol suspects Hayes was under the influence of alcohol. A 5-year-old boy who was in the car with him suffered injuries, but is expected to survive. A 13-year-old girl who was in Rife's KIA was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
