Chargers boy’s basketball team wraps up their season
“We had an up and down year, that’s for sure,” stated Varsity Head Coach, Mike Gast. The Chargers boy’s basketball team wrapped up their season last week with two games being played. On Tuesday, February 23, they beat WAO 62-39, but on Thursday, the 25th, they lost to KCC at UMC, 43-62, bringing their season to an end.
“We played a pretty good first half against KCC. We didn’t shoot well or execute our offense. KCC is very tough and they play very good defense. We didn’t play well the 2nd half, but I give KCC a lot of credit.”
Stats vs. WAO
Scoring: Austin Brateng 21, Blaine Kriel 13, Dylan Walker 12, Ben Groven 9, Tyler Stinar 5, Ty Jelle 2
Rebounds: Groven 10, Stinar 9, Brateng 8, Kriel 8, Jelle 6, Wilebski 2, Walker 2, Wiseth 1, Manderud 1.
Coaches Comments: We played a very good 2nd half. It was a very satisfying win since we lost by 2 to them 2 weeks ago. We played very good defense and controlled the boards. It was a great team win!

The Chargers finished the season 10-18 after going 0-7 to start. Gast stated the team struggled early in the season, but improved each week. “We had a lot of obstacles that we had to overcome. When we were able to consistently get a full line-up, we improved and played better each week. I felt our team played hard and competed most every night,” he added.
The Chargers will be losing three seniors – Benji Wilebski, Ty Jelle and Austin Brateng. “We will miss them and I appreciate what they did for the team.” He also added that they have a very good core of players coming back next year and he is hoping that the team will work hard in the off-season to make it a great run next year!
