CG Cross Country Team Ends Season at Sections at Bagley

The Clearbrook-Gonvick cross country team finished their season last Friday, Oct. 25th at the Section 8A meet in Bagley. The team was fortunate to have one of the nicest days to run this year as temperatures were in the upper 30s with very little wind. There were 23 teams and over 250 runners in the section making it the largest meet of the year that we participated in.
In the boys varsity race, Jack McQuown ran a personal best time of 19:33 to place 64th. John DeVries ran a course best time of 20:57 to place 102nd and Jayden Bergerson ran a season best time of 28:04 to place 138th. All the boys ended the season running their fastest times of the year.
In the girls varsity race, Julie Lavin ran her first 3 miles race of the year and placed 88th with a very good time of 27:51.
This meet was very competitive as teams and individuals were vying for a trip to the state cross country meet.
Our runners competed well, some running their first 3 mile race and others setting personal best times for the year and the course.
In cross country each course is different so we compare times to the course to gauge how much a runner has improved, that is why we refer to some runners as having run a course personal best.
Coach Lavin felt that the first season was very successful considering that we were very young due to graduating 5 runners last year.
This year our team consisted of 9 runners. The boys had Jack McQuown, John DeVries, Jayden Bergerson, Daniel Rankin and Matthew Rankin. The girls team had Julie Lavin, Sarah Imle and Amelia Machlitt. All our runners learned a lot and improved a lot over the season. We are looking forward to adding a few more runners next season. The team appreciates the support from the community and would like to thank the school board for allowing us to have this great sport at our school.
