Kathryn “Kittie” Stine, age 73, of Trail, MN, passed away on Tuesday, September 3rd, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13th, at the Carlin Funeral Home in Fosston with the Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Interment will be in Sand Valley Lutheran Cemetery, Trail. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Friday (13th) at the funeral home. Kathryn Ann Johnson was born on February 25, 1951, in Grand Forks, North Dakota to parents Kenneth, Sr. and Beverly (Brown) Johnson. She grew up in Grand Forks and later graduated from Fertile High School in 1969. She married Neil Barlund and to that union two children were born, Dawn and DeEtte. They later divorced.
Kittie was married to Robert Stine on December 31, 1991, and to this union three children were born, Tracey, Trapper and Dallas. They lived in Fosston for a short time before moving to Trail. Bob passed away on November 23, 2013. Kittie continued to live at home in Trail until 2020 when she moved to Grand Forks to be near her sister, Loralee.
In addition to caring for her family, Kittie worked in several places outside the home. She worked at Mr. Carrot in Trail, Good Samaritan Center in Clearbrook, The Trail’s End Bar, Walmart, and retired from Digi-Key in Thief River Falls.
Kittie liked gambling and going to the casino, crocheting, looking for treasures at second-hand stores, and fishing with her grandchildren. Most of all, she enjoyed any time that she could spend with her family.
Kittie passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks at the age of 73 years.
Survivors include four children, Dawn (Steve) Thorson of Leonard, Tracey (Angie) Stine of Iron River, MI, Trapper Stine (fiancé, April) of Trail, and Dallas (Ashley) Stine of Trail; 23 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; siblings, Loralee Roth of Grand Forks, ND, Eileen Ostgard of Waite Park, Marilyn Mischo of Des Moines, IA, Jo (Herb) Hiltabrand of Mentor; sister-in-law, Sharon Johnson of the Twin Cities. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; ex-husband, Neil; daughter, DeEtte Tinkler; brother, Bob Johnson; and brother-in-law, Jim Roth.
