Kathleen “Kathy” Elaine Stinar, 92, of Bagley, Minnesota died on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at the Cornerstone Nursing and Rehab in Bagley, Minnesota.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Bagley, Minnesota with a visitation one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Interment will be held at the Bagley City Cemetery, Minnesota.
Kathleen “Kathy” Elaine (Danks) Stinar was born on May 8, 1932, in northern Clearwater County to Margaret (Robideau) and Bert Danks. She grew up helping with the farm chores, including milking by hand morning and evening.
Kathy attended a one room country school, District 73, through 8th grade. She graduated from Clearbrook High School in 1950. She began working at the old hospital in downtown Bagley, the morning after graduation until it closed. She then worked at the Clearwater Memorial Hospital for 2 years as a nurse’s aide.
She worked in Bemidji as a waitress for a short time where she met Leonard Stinar. They were married October 25, 1952, in Junction City, Kansas where Leonard was stationed at Fort Riley.
With his transfer in November of 1952, they lived on base at Camp Atterbury, Indiana until his discharge in February of 1954. They purchased a small Farm southwest of Bagley doing farming and logging.
In 1962, they started what was to become a very successful business, “Stinar’s Shady Oak Nursery.”
During those years in business, they took annual trips to the West Coast and other places with the family. After retirement in 1994, they bought a motor home and took trips to Alaska, Quebec, Texas and various states.
Leonard and Kathleen were founding member of the Sand Hill Lake Bible Camp.
Kathy enjoyed her small orchard at the nursery, especially grapes. She loved canning season and picking blueberries. They traveled to Michigan and Washington picking peaches and bringing them home to can.
She earned her “Certified Nurseryman’s Certificate” in the 1980’s from the “Minnesota Nurseryman’s Association.” She attended several schools for horticulture judging and earned her “Certified Judge’s Certificate” from the Minnesota Horticulture Society in 1995. She judged at county fairs and horticulture shows. She was a Master Gardener for 15+ years, and won many blue and Grand Champion ribbons with her floral designs and specimens.
Kathy loved bicycle camping trips at RAGBRAI in Iowa different years. Successfully completing the 500 miles in one week one time and other times, she lasted quite a few days before the weather won. Her last long ride was from Iowa to Canada at the age of 67.
She is survived by a daughter – Ruth Stinar of Bagley, Minnesota; Four sons- Mark (Betty) Stinar, Daniel Stinar, Ethan Stinar and Michael (Angie) Stinar, all of Bagley, Minnesota. Daughter in law – Linda Stinar of Walker, Minnesota; Son-in-law – Jeffrey (Deena) Carlson of Perham, Minnesota.
10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leonard on January 1, 2021; Son – Stephen; Daughter – Deborah and infant son – David; her in-laws – Andrew and Edna Stinar; 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
