Our mom, Joy Mae Parker, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024, at the age of 86. Born on April 3, 1938, to Bernice and Oswald Berg of Clearwater County, Minnesota. Born number 2 of 9 children.
Joy was a very talented lady, she had over 40 years of ‘Joy of Birch’ making birch bark baskets, ornaments and many other creative things with birch bark. She taught birch bark classes, ornament and upholstery classes. She also rosemaled, painted, and made jewelry, pottery and wood burnings.
She was an excellent cook; she made many award-winning recipes featuring wild rice. One of our favorite dishes she made was snapping turtle. Lefse and potato Klub were favorites of hers to make. She was very gifted as a musician as well, playing guitar, accordion and piano by ear. We sang as a family growing up. Her daughter Mimi had a beautiful voice singing with her husband in the band LOW for over 25 years.
She worked at Arctic Cat in Clearbrook, MN and was a cook for many years at Greensview in Bagley, MN. She went to school in her later years to become a chef.
