Services for George E. Postier

George E. Postier died peacefully Thursday, April 13, 2017, at the Sanford Medical Center in Bemidji, MN.

George was born on Dec. 23, 1944, in Bagley, MN, to Graydon and Sophie (Lundin) Postier. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Clearbrook. He was raised on the family farm and attended the Rydeen School; Clearbrook High School, graduating in 1962; and the University of Minnesota. During school George participated in 4-H, baseball and football.

George began his working career as a Production Control Manager with Sperry Univac in St. Paul, Minnesota in the late '60's.  George moved with the company to Clearwater, Florida in the mid '70s and then to Pueblo, Colorado in the mid '80's when the company was purchased by Unisys.  In 1995 the company was  purchased by Lockheed Martin and at that time George moved to back to Clearwater, Florida and later to Greenville, South Carolina until his retirement in 2000.  George loved his work and the friends he made there.  After retirement he moved back to Clearbrook to raise his children and assist his parents.  In retirement, George was an active member of the community, worked part-time at Granley’s, and served as the mayor of Clearbrook.  He dedicated his spare time to the construction and completion of the Clearbrook Veterans Memorial which honors those who served in the Armed Forces.  He loved to play golf and was an avid reader with an extensive book collection.  George was a huge Minnesota Twins and Colorado Rockies fan, had a passion for cooking, happy hour, and traveling near and far to visit family and friends. 

He is lovingly remembered by his children, Austin Postier, Clearbrook, MN; Ashley (Dustin) Thorson, Green Valley, AZ; Amber Elliott, Rochester, NH; grandchildren, Cecelia, Gabriel and Bryson Thorson; sister, Nancy (Andrew) Overby, Harmony, MN; brother, Steve Postier, Harlingen, TX; nieces, Sarah (Jim Wilwerding) Overby, Freeport, MN; Chris (Derrick) Hongerholt, New Market, MN; Jennifer Overby, Apache Junction, AZ.; aunts, Amy (Postier) McQuillan, Oakdale, MN; Alvera Lundin, Bloomington, MN; numerous cousins, great nieces, nephews and many good friends.

George is preceded in death by his longtime partner Brandie (Santistevan) Elliott, his parents and grandparents.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 2:00 PM in Clearbrook, MN at the Clearbrook Community Center with Pastor Bob Kirchman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at a later date with a private ceremony at the Augustana Cemetery in Clearbrook, MN.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.  Memorials will be donated to the Clearbrook Veterans Memorial.
